Yes it's safe. I believe 5+5cm is safe too and a lot of people have done more.

BUT, I think no matter how small of a increase you do, even if its 2cm..in the long term you're probably going to have bad knees etc 10 years earlier than without ever doing the surgery.

With 8cm probably 15 years premature knee problems.
