Are internal tibias with precice a bad idea?
« on: January 22, 2015, 12:10:53 AM »

title says it all. thinking about doing internal tibias with precice for less scarring and hopefully a better overall outcome but i hear doing internal tibias may not be the best idea. Why is that? I only plan to do at most 4cm maybe more like 3.6 or 3.8.

Good plan. But if I were you I would keep it to the 3.643578 cm to 3.754644 cm range

Lol!!

Yeah  3.6 isn't worth it and 3.8 may be a bit too risky. ;)

There's a risk of permanent knee pain if you have nails inserted through the patellar tendon in the knee.

Why would that be a risk? I know a few powerlifting buddies whom have torn their patellar tendons in half but recovered.

I don't know.  Someone here found a study that showed a 25% chance of it happening though.

But correlation is not causation.  The fact that it isn't 100% could mean something else is the cause in those people.

Just another thing to think about with our imperfect knowledge on the subject.

I mean the only reason i mind doing externals is because of the scarring. I mean i got some brown hairy legs but still i rather not have major scars for the rest of my life. Limb lengthening is not really a secret anymore and i don't want to receive flak for doing it...

If anything is there like some kind of scar removal surgery? Also what would be the best external method then for tibias?

I think the scars fade away.

I would think internal tibs would just be a waste of money because externals/LON can do the same job just as well. You can get scar removal later and still end up paying less overall than you would have if you paid for internals. I guess that depends on which doctor you go to though. Dr Paley insisted that there would be no savings with using a fixator over internals, but I think that's only with him.

Thats what I was thinking. Dr. Paley said that the time-frame is 4 months walking unaided, 5 months running, and 6 months sports. That seems very possible with 6-7 cm of Lon. That's also why I think I'm just going to do 6-7 cm with Dr. Shah in India for my tibias and then do internal femurs with Dr. Guichet some time in the future.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't lengthening with the same doctor be crucial?

What would people think down 3-4 years in the future how they will approach internal LL or do you think there will be a better way of LL the tibias without taking a chance of ruining your knees?
