How much would you advice someone to lengthen with LL and why?
« on: December 04, 2013, 04:53:44 PM »

Someone who wants to do cosmetic Limb lengthening would want to lengthen a certain amount of centimeters. How much do you believe is the safest?
If you did LL already, how much did you lengthen?

I don't think I'd want to hit the 6cm mark for tibs or the 7cm mark for femurs. Would probably feel safe underneath those lengths if the osteotomy was done by an experienced and honest surgeon. If I end up going through with the surgery this month after my consultations, I'd probably go for 5.5cm maximum on my tibs. Generally I'd want at least two inches so the surgery and recovery time is worth all the pain and possible complications, but I don't want to go that far above 2 inches on either segment just to minimize complication risk and maximize probability of recovering somewhat close to my physical condition prior to lengthening.

Do you think is even worth it to go through all that surgery and pain just for 5 cm? It does have quite a difference but not a big one

I think the difference is significant enough. I think that the shorter your starting height, the more noticeable/significant gains are. For me, going from 5'5 to 5'7 would be a great deal.

Listen to Kilokhan, conservative and wise is the best way to go about LL.  I used to be only fixated on only doing 5-5 femurs/tibia, and I just noticed this greed coming over me saying now I want to do 6-6 and then I changed that to 7-6.  It's not healthy and it's not safe.  I will most likely go with my original 5-5 or 6-6.

I have already done my tibia 8 cm and i wish i could go back in time and did 6 cm .
Really from my experience 5 to 6 cm is best . Do not go more then that if you really want your normal life back asap

It depends on your body.  I did 7.5 cm and I was doing quite well at the end of my LL, and I probably could've done more without a problem.  I did consider going for the full 10cm Beijing was offering as a package deal at the time, but I stopped at 7.5 because of financial and logistical reasons.

My advice is don't have a height goal going into LL.  See how much you can get without problems/complications.  You'll have a better idea of that once you're doing the LL.  Some people like me could've done more, and some people can't reach their original goal because their body just can't take it.

Safest is probably 5 cm on tibias and maybe a little more than that on femurs.

For a single LL
If you are significantly below average height do 7 or 8 cm since I think height is more important than having perfect proportions. If you are already average height or close to it then have your tibia and femur length x-rayed and lengthen only to the point to keep them in proportion with each other which is probably 6 to 7.5 cm for most people. Even if your proportions can handle more than 7.5 cm it is not a good idea since you are approaching the elastic limit of your soft tissues and may sacrifice a lot of your athletic ability. For doing more than 7.5 cm you should do a second LL.

If you do not care about proportions or possibly losing athletic ability then go for 10 cm in one segment.

I lengthened 6.5 cm and I think I stopped at exactly the point I should have.

Hey MDOW,

Thangquebietbay wrote in his diary that he had a horrible experience in Vietnam.

Can you tell us much about Jungle's experience in Vietnam?
