Should I?
« on: January 13, 2015, 01:05:11 AM »

Hello everyone, I am here to ask a question and am curious what you would be doing if you were in my shoes. I am currently 17.9 years old and I am standing at 172cm. When I was a year old I had a tumor in my brain which damaged my pituatory gland and the production of growth hormone. Ever since, I have been on growth hormone injections everday and I am still taking it. The doctors have told me that since my growth is coming to a stop, I will have to stop taking the injections. The growth hormone treatment costs 30,000$ a year but thank the lord it is covered my my dads insurance. Now the idea of stopping the treatment really bothers me as it is something that I have been doing for so long. I don't really know how to explain it. I feel really bad that it is coming to an end and in all honesty I feel small compared to others. The fact that I had the production of my natural growth hormone gone and that I had to use injections bugs me because during vacations (2 months each year) my mother didn't take the medication with us. So in total I have missed about 1.5 years of injections. At around 14 I took the responsibility of doing the injections, but I just can't simply get over the fact that I have lost a year and half of growth. I am filled with grief and I can't stop thinking about the height I would be at now if I didn't miss that 1.5 year (probably ~177cm). It is bothering me so much and it is getting in my dreams and I can't stand it. The only way out of it seems to do the surgery and I know many of you here will call me crazy for doing it at 172cm, but I cannot live with the grief. I've probably driven myself crazy and I probably sound crazy right now writing this. I've set my mind to getting the surgery when I turn 18. I'm going mad and probably will go insane soon :-\

bro,  u probably will need GH injections during your lengtheing phase, because lengthening results in growth of soft tissue and the mediators are igf-1 and gh.

speak to your endocrinologist if he can prescribe you anti-estrogens like tamoxifen. this will open your growth plates for a long time.

Omg nooo. My endo will call me crazy.  That is something I been wondering for a while too (injections during lengthening). So I'm going to need growth hormone injections during lengthening phase 100%?

if your body does not produce growth hormone stopping your treatment 100% is like cutting off your testicles or your thyroid gland and giving the age old med school logic brainwashed into stupid people who become an MD today that you don't need replacement.   The reality is you do need that replacement and without that you can face extreme problems in life.  If we can just cut off our metabolic organs and not replace it why do we have them when we are born?  A perfect example of stupidity you have to have GH in your body I have no fking idea how you will live without it.  Perhaps taking something like HGH up or anything your doctor is probably wrong and it just is expenisve.   It's strange as he could just keep going with it to make money don't know why they cut you off meh :/

I lost like 18 cm of growth, OP. How do you think I feel? Take the GH if you need it, and, if you want to, get the procedure to reach the height you want. If you are feeling insecure right now, wear some boots with a little bit of a lift. They do owners for your confidence. I wear them to be about 178 cm (5'10) at my shows, and they help a lot.

You're lucky that this treatment even exists. Be grateful instead of pissed off that you missed a year and a half.

Hello Dreamof180,

With growth Hormone replacement, you still have chance at your age to grow. According to CDC in the USA, the average growth of men between 17.9 years and 19.9 years is 0.7 cm on average, but it some cases, growth can be much more (possibility to grow f.e. 5 cm and more, specially if puberty is delayed). Personally, my growth between 18 and 20 was approximately 2 cm. In some cases, there is even little growth after 20 (if growth plates are not fused and there is high amount of Growth Hormone/IGF 1)

If there is a fight with insurance, it is often benefitial to have a medical expertise/survey from a doctor (specialist) that the injections are medically indicated. I would recommend to try to get this from a doctor; than you have good arguments concerning insurance.

Greetings Morpheus

Okay so the endo that prescribes me the growth hormone has a policy that I must grow 1 cm every 6 months. I'm not sure how much longer I can keep that up for as my growth is coming to end very soon (I barely made it this time). The other day I was at this club and I wore my timberlands which gave me a nice bit of height, yet I still felt short. It bothered me so much to the point where I couldn't sleep that night. All I really want is to be around 177-180cm and with some nice lifts I can probably achieve 183-185 which would be amazing. As each day passes I want to get the procedure done more and more. Being short really kills your confidence :'(

Hey there. I started growth hormone at the age of 6. The interesting thing with my case is that I had a tumor removed at the age of 2, and then another tumor appeared inside my brain next to my pituitary gland. Since it was dangerous to operate inside the brain, I had to go through chemotherapy. About a year later, my parents found that I wasn't growing as well as the other kids. They brought me to an endocrinologist and found out that the tumor had damaged the part of my pituitary gland which produces growth hormone. I believe at the age of 6 I was around ~110 cm. Right now I am standing at 172 cm and I am still on the growth hormone. I have grown about 62 cm with growth hormone and the funny thing is that my father is 170 cm and my mother is 168 cm. I should be happy that I am taller than both my parents, but I am not. 172 cm just doesn't do it for me. All I want to be is average height, and I can put what happened to me in past and live a happy life. Every time I feel short, I remember what happened to me and the memories of going through mri's and chemotherapy flash back and I can't stand it.

Hang in there. You are doing good.I discovered my son's pituitary issues late. I think I lost several years and many centimeters. We found out that he has a cyst in his pituitary. I blame myself all the time. You just need to be healthy. Especially for your condition. My son is 160cm. I know he had a potential to grow, although I am 158cm and his dad is 165. Good luck, keep us posted. If you really want to be tall, then you can make it. Also, have you finished your puberty? I am giving my son aromatase inhibitors, so we can have his growth plates open. Also he is on Lupron, which delays the puberty.

I am saving up right now. So far I have 30,000$ USD. How much do you think I should save up or how much do you think is required to go through the whole procedure+ hotel fees?

I'm not too sure if I have finished puberty yet. I'll have to ask the endo when I go there in a couple months to get my regular check up. How old is your son right now?

Why did you have a kid when both you and your husband are 21th century midgets? Like what did you expect would happen. You just made a miserable boy because you didnt think. I wish you good luck with that situation. Ps dont get a second child if your not prepared to move to south america.

You have enough for a few doctors, but I'd save more for quality purposes.

What about his parents? And his parent's parents? We reproduce to survive, not to die.

People reproduce out of selfish reasons nothing else. Check out the studies.

They lived in another world. Imagine a world without internet and netflix. Yeah that naive and stupid. Since things wore easier in the 90s. The parents thought that it wasnt that bad but they baaarellly made it before the heightism reached it peak as we are in now. So their child got it 3x times as hard as his father had it. His father wont see it because he reflects his own youth on his son and tells him to man up. When in fact the dad would probably do worse then his son if they switched place.

And this does not just go for height but in general. We are at most 2 years from complete economic meltdown and ww3. And yet these android people continues to push out useless babies as fast as possible. Really need to create a new border/land where all the peole with a brain on active duty is only allowed to enter. The rest will meet their inevitavle karma doom. Like the great flood of noah. All the stupid sinners got washed away. Start fresh.
