Planning to undergo the Limb Lenghthining Procedure
« on: January 04, 2015, 09:04:59 AM »

Hi All,

After doing a lot of research and thinking, I have finally decided to undergo this surgery to increase 2 inches of height on the tibias. I have shortlisted the below locations for the surgery. I'm from India and even though we do have good doctors in India for this surgery, I'm still considering China as they are more experienced. Would love to see your recommendations and comments on the below 3 options.

1) China - Beijing Institute of External fixation

2) India - Dr Sarin.

3) India - Dr Mangal Parihar

Thank you.

From what I've researched and read on the forums, I also think China is the best one of those three. Personally I would prefer Russia over India as well ... cause the most complications (long term ones) I've read about were from India. Although this is only my opinion based on my individual research and conversations ...

Looks like a bad list. From what I've heard, china has changed a lot in terms of cost and reliability. And sarin is sarin.

Dr Parihar has been doing limb lengthening for over 20 years and was a fellow of Dr Paley. He does primarily reconstructive surgeries, which is good because he's seen it all and will know how to prevent or correct any complications that happen with this kind of surgery. I'd say he's great for cosmetic lengthening as well because he advised a plan for me which allowed for less scarring than would be typical for other lengthening patients. He will also correct any misalignment that happens with a six axis correction system aka hexapod.I was his 11th cosmetic patient. If India is your destination, he's your best bet. Sarin is a novice compared to him.

Dr. Guichet is fine. Leechlet was just an immature child.

So it will either be Dr. Pariahar or Beijing Institute of external fixation in China. I recently contacted the Chinese institute and was informed that they have increased their prices to 34000 USD.

Do you think its safe to do Suhas Shah on Precice? He also seems competent but then again there's a lot of risks involved with doing internals in India since they are still in the beta stage.

I can't really say because I didn't do my surgery with him, but his credentials are good and he seemed like a nice guy.

Crimsontide has had surgery with Dr Shah though so you should ask him what he thinks.

Dr Parihar told me that insertion of a nail is pretty standard procedure regardless of whether it's Precice or something else, so as long as your surgeon knows how to properly insert an intramedullary rod then you should be fine.

Yeah. Other than Dr. Mahboubian, Im not concerned with any doctor doing Precice. I know Dr. Sarin was going to add the Precice nail but he never got back to that. But wouldn't trust him anyway.

You have to look at each Indian doctor individually. You can't generalize them. Dr. Sringari and Dr. Sarin are both quacks, although Dr. Sarin is by far the worst of the two.

The Beijing Institute is probably better; they have a lot of experience.

This. And even so...Leechlet actually had no complications in the end.

Strangely I haven't seen any limb lengthening  diaries from Dr.Peng recently. The claim to do around 500 CLL surgeries in year and yet no posts their experience ?

Most patients probably write on Chinese message boards.

Yeah, the majority of his patients have always been Chinese, and the continual price increases aren't helping matters with the foreign patients.
