ps. Sweden is 2 years post op.

ps. good footballer quit football.

This is what im saying. Is it really worth it to get those extra cms? for what? I'm not a big LL expert as i have been lurking about it for a little while and still have little knowledge of it but if theres one pattern i keep seeing is that doctors recommend no more than 5 cm to retain the best athletic functions. Now you being 5'8 already you probably have longer tibias than the traditional 165cm male so you may lengthen a little more to get away with it. Personally since i am only 5'5 i would only lengthen my tibias no more than 4cm even if my doctor told me the safe range was 5cm. Femurs 5cm for a total of 9cm even though doctors say they don't like going past 10cm for both sections total. My mobility is priceless to me and i simply refuse to be a shell of my former self because i wanted an extra inch on top of the couple of inches i was already getting. That's just retarded.

Like i said though do whatever you want. its your legs not mine.

I've a long starting tibial length of 36 cm which is the average American tibia length(my country's average height is about 4 cm+ less than America)

I developed another emergency..... On my left leg something came loose. I think this is very dangerous as the large pin used to be connected to the half-ring. The large pin is totally unconnected from the frame now.

Pics here:

http://tinypic.com/r/iw5eew/8
Plastic cuff I might use... http://www.galls.com/photos/styles/RS067.JPG

So, essentially a metal pin just impaled into my bone and not connected to the half-ring... I wonder if the rest of the mechanism is enough to pull this pin.

I was thinking of using plastic flexi-cuffs to tie the half ring together with the pins...

I am asking Dr Fahri for his opinion... or maybe I will visit a local ortho surgeon who does LL with ilizarov.

lengthening at home can change from great to dangerous very quickly.

I have attached a flexi-cuff very rigidly to connect the pin to the half-frame so that they move together as a unit when I lengthen.

http://tinypic.com/r/2uqzolv/8

I have to continue lengthening cause as said by Dr Fahri I will consolidate if I go slower than 0.5mm/day...

I think I have quite decent callus now, but it hasn't formed a bridge so it is useless to the most part.

I hear that if a single pin breaks it is still OK cos there are other pins? how true is this?

I am now resting my body weight on probably 2 or 3 remainder pins... So I will put less weight on my left leg when I walk and stand (I have to walk and stand, but I will use the wheelchair all the time as much as I can).

What is the risk of uneven lengthening with a flexi-cuff? the unit is super-tight and rigid. But even if there is uneven lengthening, i suppose i can correct it in Russia? I mean I am going over in 16 days thereabouts.

I can only see my local ortho about the first week of March. I usually see this guy who is trained in Kurgan: http://www.nuh.com.sg/scripts/WebFormShowProfile.aspx?id=13851

This doc specialises in LL and fitbone (I think he is trained to do fitbone): https://www.practo.com/singapore/doctor/dr-sarbjit-singh-orthopedist    But I will only see him as a last resort as I know him...

This doc is trained in 1991 by the university of Maryland to do LL surgery.. but that is too long ago, i don't think he even does this kind of surgery often now: http://www.ortho-intl.com/index.php/dr-liang-te-shan

Dr fahri has seen my pics and asked when I am coming to Moscow. I suppose it is a game-changing situation...

if the pin is not attached to the frame, my mind calculates it will cause misalignment.

the pin is suppose to move with the device and keep its angle relative to the frame.

?what do you think?

it is a very dangerous situation and i may even have misalignment as we speak.. there might also be risk of the other two pins breaking..

dr fahri wants me to go to Moscow as soon as I can, so i will change my flight to next week (though it will be expensive....)

i am also told not to do any weight-bearing on my left leg (i will avoid as i need to walk and stand ., eg when i use the toilet)

Did some research on Dr bagirov and he is often recommended In Russian forums.. (my Russian friend told me same thing):

In 2009, there was this post, and it shows some recommended surgeons! It appears Dr Kulesh is the one who works with Dr Solomin

As Dr Fahri wants me to urgently go to Moscow, I hvve booked my urgent flight and visa. (paying a few hundred USD more due to the change).

I wonder why WBG and crimsontide and others were so lucky.

Yes I know about the local price, from a Russian patient who did lengthening there.

And another person said if he/she had USSR/Russian citizenship or status, they could get a lower price.

Is this some government medical-aid thing??

I am continuing lengthening Right leg at 0.5, and left leg is not being lengthened now. I will reach Russia in first week of March.

Posted this in  another thread:

I don't understand why my doc would lie to me. He knows I am on these forums and I am writing a review. He also knows I am in the medical field. He knows I am fine with 6 cm. Why would he repeat that 8 cm is fine and just do it in tibias. Don't do it femurs and tibia? perhaps really, a two-staged operation is more traumatic to the body than a one stage 8 cm?

Of course, one staged 6 cm is the best, but what is to say that a one-stage 8 cm will have a more arduous recovery but you still end up fine?

2 cm is not much. But I am in Yellow's situation. I don't wanna end this process being unhappy or whatever, saying that I COULD HAVE got to 182. 182 is above average in most parts of the world. and I think I will be very happy with that (I might immigrate when I am older, to Australia/USA or even Korea); I need a global height.

At least, the clinical parameters are good. I have stopped tramadol for a few days. Just paracetamol and 75 mg Lyrica every night. Pains are at zero, even though I am still lengthening right leg. Equinus status is good, same for knee contracture (Knee contracture is a bigger problem though).

I was wondering if you could post updated pictures of your proportions and videos of your walking now that you've passed 5CM.

I minimise walking now, because I have a disconnected pin emergency on left leg (so I am left with 4 pins for the proximal tibia). This will be fixed next week in Russia.

I am not sure at all. I didn't ask my doctor that I definitely want 8 cm. I asked him the maximum length where I will not compromise athletic functions.

If I am 1.82, in order to dunk I need to retain a 60+ cm vertical leap. (That is quite a lot for someone who did LL)

1.82 + 0.68 (reach) + 0.65 (vertical leap) = 3.15 m (15 cm above the basket).

Misalignment not  a problem with Russian clinics.

It takes 2 years to learn how to dunk and train your muscles to dunk, so I think I will need a good 4 years before I can dunk again (2 years recovery + 2 years plyometrics)

Last night and today morning, I am off paracetamol. I slept well, and have minimal pains. (1/10 sometimes, at distal pin sites) . I am off all painkillers. I only take Lyrica at night 75 mg to sleep.

Right leg is distracting 0.5mm/day

I've decided to stop updating this diary because the members here appear (some of them) to have psychological issues. (See my thread on the ideal male height, and statistical and anecdotal proofs that six feet is ideal, taller isn't). I do NOT want to help people with distorted mindset to accomplish their goals anymore. This will NOT help them. They will come out of the surgery thinking that "I am so sad, I wasted time, money and energy, and I am still NOT happy. I want 195 cm now". This HAS to STOP.

If anyone from Singapore is interested however, you can give me a call. Drop me an email first: plasticsingapore@gmail.com. I will not entertain questions from people outside Singapore.

I have decided that yes, I have gained information and I have taken a lot from this forum. THIS DIARY is MY CONTRIBUTION BACK to the forum. I have decided I have contributed enough.

I have a final comment: I have to add further that Skype consultations with the clinic are very laggy. And that I walk very awkwardly now, and hope that I can walk less awkwardly (My torso bends forward at a 90 degrees angle with each step)

If I have complications or problem, I will post on another Username using my iPad/iPhone. I will not reveal my identity or clues that this was a Russian surgery.

Take care:) And my advice before you embark on surgery, ask yourself whether you have a skewed mindset. Whether you really want 195 m, whether once you get 195 m (etc etc) you want 2.1 m?

I might end up too tall at 182+ m. But I am happy, because I always wanted to be this height (even if Japanese women think I am too tall, and Singaporean women think so), I wanted to be this height to feel tall where I live.

Anyway I have knee contracture issues and I might stop at 6 cm instead :) so for all those worried for me, thanks. It appears that the ideal height in America/UK is 183 and so by parity of reasoning, ideal height in Singapore should be around 1.80.

It is good to close this diary and it is good to know I have helped some people. But I must move on with my life, and I cannot help mentally ill (Body dysmorphic disorder) go into greater insanity. I am a medical student and I owe a duty to help people, and not destroy their lives.

Those with BDD will never be satisfied with their bodies. 183 cm, they lengthen to 188 cm, they might not be happy. They need psychological help. (psychiatric help if necessary).

Mental illness is cured with pills and/or psychotherapy/CBT/counselling and NOT surgery. If anything, it will transform their lives into something much worse than before (ie, being 188 cm, not happy still. they push to 195 cm and end up crippled or unable to play sports)

It is good to shut up. My friend has borrowed for me 4-5 basketball books and I have wasted so much time idling on this forum I have only read 1/2 of a book. I have also got to earn money. I can earn 5000 /month teaching high school kids and will do so when I am back from Russia with help of mobility scooter.

I am doing well. Adieu :)

NOt tomorrow. When I have problems. I have an iPhone/iPad with data plan (not using my home router) so the IP address is different. I will post under different username if I have problem ;)

Bent left leg, horrible visa support leading to immigration offence (anna, thank you), broken left leg frames, poor infection treatment and poor pain control, and also being cheated about the price (6500 euros vs 400,000 rubles or so) think carefully before you do LL. your height is good.

I'm honestly amazed at how infantile your behavior is. Enough to repeatedly question my intelligence, my sanity, insinuate I am not educated, and threaten to leave the forum If someone doesn't tell the big bad man meursault to stop hurting your feelings. Posts 6+ posts one after another full of incoherent babble because you're just SO MAD at me for showing that a height you can't reach(and that just tears you up inside in fact, you initially wanted to lengthen to 188cm but now you've changed your story.) isn't too tall. Do I have to remind you that you're the one who started this? You were so enraged because someone on the forum posted an ideal height range that differed from your own, that you immediately started calling me Low IQ and WRONG WRONG WRONG.

> Wants to be 188cm
> Too difficult/dangerous/time consuming
>"All 6'2"+ males are ugly monsters who are shunned by society and can't get girls!"

And all because I pointed out your hypocrisy; you tell people of average height for their countries not to leg lengthen and that they are mentally ill, when you literally did exactly what you told them not to do, lengthened when you were already average height in Singapore. Why do you differentiate between these two identical situations? They have starting heights you would kill for, that's why. But at least you have your University education right? It's the only thing you can come up with when someone outclasses you in a debate. It's a shame even the education you harp on about failed you, because you're still ignorant and sheltered enough to apply the standards of your tiny country to the rest of the world.

This is just a sad, sad tale of bitterness, jealousy, mental illness, mental anguish and an attempt to cope.

Steeped in insecurity, your fragile ego was so shaken up because I absolutely shattered your delusions, that you had a mental breakdown on the forum. Now you whine and cry for attention to try to silence me. Sorry, we're not on the old forum anymore friend. All this backfired though, you just proved that your faulty reasoning can't stand up to criticism. So please, whine and cry more, and destroy your reputation even further, and humiliate yourself until you end up leaving or making an alternate account. 1000+ posts down the drain, and a diary with insight that could potentially save people from being crippled by poor decisions... abruptly canceled, all because you're too sensitive and selfish to admit you're wrong  ::) A new freaking account, just to hide from me? That's the most pathetic thing i've ever seen on an internet forum.   ;D

How about you apologize to everyone on the forum for your disgraceful tantrum that portrays everyone here on LL Forum in a bad light, and start acting like an adult now?

Let me address some of ur concerns ;)

1. I wanted to be 190 cm but I backed out because 182+ is already pushing it in my country. I was afraid to be too tall. I will NOT lengthen to 190 cm because of my fear of losing dates (yes, both guys & girls)
2. You called me incoherent. I posted statistics (opinion polls). I posted scientific studies. I posted anecdotes. I posted logical reasoning (eg, Hollywood and K-pop heights). You? You were full of incoherence instead  :P where are your sources, my baby?
3. Please address directly my data (opinion polls, studies, anecdotes, and reasoning). Also, I have mentioned and explained the "hypocrisy" which you so speak.
4. I am polite to all members. I fail to see the maturity of reasoning in your arguments. Let members decide for themselves who has more logical and advanced arguments and data.

I ask again: Where is your data? ???
As we speak, I am planning to go to Russia with my girlfriend and we are gonna have a great time  :D ;) she managed to change her schedule to come with me. Either way or how, why are you so angry??
