Day Four : 0.25 mm
Day Five: 1 mm
Day Six (today): 1 mm
Another two more turns (0.25 mm x 2 ) for today!
Slight soreness today when walking without aid.
Walking generally gets better the more you walk unaided.
Range of motion improves greatly when you walk unaided.
But this morning, after being drugged up on Chlorphenaramine (I took them) at 5 am, the nurse kept telling me not to sleep (nyet spoch!!). So funny! She's so cute. I think her name is Lena, young lady.
I was sleeping on and on and on from 5 am until 12. I couldn't really sleep last night as I was so excited and stoked about my progress. I did NOT expect to be able to walk unaided.
I am the second person to be able to do so after this, in the forum!
my dorsiflexion is still 20 degrees. I always stretch my ankles when in bed, haha. kinda paranoid about the ballerina issues!
I will do my exercise at 1.30 Moscow time to 2.30 Moscow time.
* dorsiflexion stretch
* lying on the bed
* back muscles
* arm muscles (2 kilogram dumbbells)
* leg raises
* abs muscles

I think I will use crutches every now and then to train my upper body strength.

Another 0.25 mm later today!
I feel so good now. I have almost full ROM.
I am such a bad-ass I lengthened 0.25 mm within 2 hours of doing so earlier  :)
I think it does not really matter. Just listen to your body!
Dorsiflexion is still 20 degrees.
I am still continuing on my mega-dose of essential vitamins and minerals.
I cant manage to do a sit-up.
Getting into a cobra pose was so painful but I managed! :)
I can still walk unaided :)
A friend of mine can walk unaided until 8 mm, and it was pretty rare to walk unaided. Most need 1.5 months! I hope I can walk unaided for the rest of my LL journey, until maybe 5 cm.

Thanks!

Dr said that pins might break. but I must walk. i was wondering if pins break in my home country, will I be able to fix it? at a local clinic/hospital? i need the spare parts and instructions.

I have finally reached 2.25mm. it helps to have an excel spreadsheet. i might want to lengthen an extra 0.25 mm today (cause I will be using Xanax to sleep tonight), and tomorrow I will lengthen 0.75 mm.

has anyone lengthened 1.25 mm/day?

and yes i have more trouble walking now at 2.25 mm. my friend couldnt walk totally at 8 mm he said his legs broke?!?! sounds bad!

The russians don't like to give medicines.

I asked for antibiotic ointment, they gave some anti-bacterial cream.

Sigh.

And for sleep, I dont think they will prescribe any sleep-aids. (They dont even give paracetamol, or paracetamol with codeine, though these are established drugs for #)

So I brought my own.

Totally unprepared for this situation! I wish I brought more medicines.

So to help me to sleep:
* Paracetamol (to ease any residual pain); I did not get any pain injections today
* Dextrometorphan 60 mg, i brought this for flu and mucus, but it makes painkillers more effective, so I am using it.
* melatonin 3 mg (I know, it can be reduced to 1.5 mg). tomorrow i will take a scissors to cut it. You don't need 3 mg to sleep!

So all drugged up, I am gonna sleep!

I'm saving the Queen of Sedatives (Xanax) for when I really cannot sleep.I only have, like five or six 0.5 mg tablets. Pretty pathetic. Should have brought more.

Then again, there is a kind night nurse, who provides sedative pills (its a soviet union drug, more powerful than Xanax). next time i will ask it from her, just in case :D

Xanax is the benzo most likely to cause abnormal behavior, including violence and suicide.

but sure a great choice for leg lengthening.

just got a response from dr fahri that it is normal inflammation.
so I am now on anti-bacterial ointment
if it doesn't get better after a few days, antibiotic will be given.
since it is so uncomfortable I will go back to using crutches.

Such good sleep of my life.
I literally slept from 12 midnight until 1 pm today (on and off)
Of course, its the dextromorphan.
ANd I don't know they injected some stuff to my buttocks.
THe combination of these..
Mega-zzz.
Feels nice to be awake, but I am behind schedule; I've got to turn 4 times today culminating to the total of 1mm.
Was pretty lazy last night, didn't really wanna walk cos the pin-site was pain and infected (but doctor says its not ); well it seems better today.
Going to the toilet, and then turning.

Actually, at 7 days post op now, I think 7 days is more than enough for you to go home and rest.

There's not much to do here and mental aspect bores me out!

Here I am 4.5 mm taller, I can still walk without crutches.

I wonder when is the pin gonna break!

Not gonna take that chance, so I am gonna (mostly) to use crutches. And every now and then practise walking without crutches.

Walking without crutches now is more difficul because I have a pin-site tenderness and pain, probably infection...

But Russians don't like to prescribe oral or topical antibiotics.

So my advice: PLEASE bring ur own antibiotics.

That's because antibiotics, when over-prescribed, lead to the creation of superbugs.  You should only use them if there's clearly an infection, not because maybe there might be.

That's what i thought.

But the korean doctors prescribe topical antibiotics and oral antibiotics like nobodys business.

same with the plastic surgeons worldwide

but i think this is different because LL is a very long drawn-out process so we need to keep our weapons?

thank u!!

yes i hope to get walking normally

last night, i had the most extreme pain ever in my life!! I endured half an hour before deciding to get a second jab!!

I dont know why.

But I think its cos i lengthen 1.25 mm and maybe the pin site "infection" or maybe inflammation.

From now, I will lengthen 1mm and step down to 0.75 mm as dr suggested after 1-2 days.

Slow and steady is always better.

Thank god nurse natash injected me twice with painkillers (the second injection was stronger and totally knocked out the pain almost completely)

4 mm  now.
It is almost impossible to walk without crutches.
You feel your leg are almost breaking
I think it is because the callus is not as strong as normal bone.
And fixator does not replace normal bone!

Met a russian girl who is also doing lengthening.

They say doctor is very good. But I am actually paying much more than the russian rate :O

But its okay! We are foreigners after all!

the russians come prepared. they bring all the strongest painkillers you can think of.

Sigh, I wish i were more prepared.

She was kind enough to give me some great painkillers!

Looking good!

Yeah, pain is usually the worst within a week after the surgery. After this, it slowly recede but it will still be there.

Pain is now a part of your life. As long as you have the metal frame on and as long as you lengthen your leg, you will feel pain. You will adopt a set of favourite pills or a combination of pills that work for you. It's been a long time but I like the muscle relaxant tablet because it helps me fall asleep.

8cm... full external. Expect 8 months or more before you can take the frame off.

Regarding the woman.. has a kid and husband. That's okay. It's hard for a woman to hang on to herself for so long doing this surgery.

shes doing only 5 cm and she says most patients do 5-6 cm.

Yeah I know 8 months or more. I expect 10-12 months.

She is not going to work and staying at home everyday for 6 months. For 5 cm, the time taken is 6 months.

Will pain decrease once i stop lengthening?
