Femur lengthening horror stories?
« on: November 30, 2014, 05:59:24 PM »

I'm interested in femur lengthening of 3-4cm, and I was wondering what the risks associated with such lengthening were.

Are there horror stories of permanent damage to the leg, tendons, or muscles with this amount of lengthening? How noticeable are the scars?

Note that I'd probably be doing lengthening in the US with Dr. Paley.

I am also interested in femur lenghtening, I plan to do between 4-5CM with an internal method. Either with Paley or Guichet. Would you consider that a safe option under the circumstances?

There are some horror stories but usually because the LLer went cheap and did monorail in a place like India or the Middle East.

If you go to one of the top doctors, and do internal, you shouldn't have a problem.

I will if I find that it is a better (healthier) option but I'd prefer femur because it's longer and can tolerate more lenghtening, it doesn't take as long as tibia, I think my post-op motor skills would be better and I think it's less noticeable.

What about Korea? I remember reading somewhere the precise 2 nail won't lengthen.

Internal femur for that amount is quite safe and relatively easy. You'd be done before you knew it. Though a lot of effort and money for 3 CM

Yeah I remember those issues with that new nail.  I remember that there was a lot of anticipation for "the new and improved" Precise II nail, but many people were against going with an unproven nail.  I wouldn't do it either.  I feel bad for those people who spent a lot of money to go to Korea.

Lesson learned: don't go with unproven methods, nails, etc.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll think about 4 :)

How is the surgery for getting the internal rod removed? How long does it take for that?
