Urgent: Upper body exercises after leg surgery??
« on: November 30, 2014, 04:17:24 PM »

Should I bring some dumbbells (light ones) and some resistance ropes?

I want to do some upper body exercise when I am lengthening... (when i am sitting)

Is this NOT recommended? Or is it ok?

Of course it is OK, even recommended. But you probably won't have the drive and power to do that.

Yes, it's okay to do upper body exercises and LL at the same time.  A roommate of mine in Beijing brought a big dumbbell with him and worked out every day.

One thing is working out can slow down consolidation. Still I don't see why some upper body workouts would be a problem.

I resumed working out as soon as I was finished lengthening.

All my upper body workout is done through standing with the walker and using my wheelchair to get around. That's enough for me.  :)

I don't see why you couldn't do the usual pullups, bench presses or dips, and military presses, even when using externals.

I was too low on energy to do them, although I had planned to in the beginning.

Oh, and btw, light dumbells and resistance bands are useless. Use heavy barbells exercises.

I haven't done leg lengthening...yet. But, I've gone to the gym when bedridden with the flu, so I doubt two broken legs will stop me.

Oh, and there is no such thing as heavy muscle vs. lean muscle. There is only muscular tissue. That is it.

Of course it will stop you. Stop thinking that LL is a walk in a park or you will be in big trouble once you're there...

I never said ll was a walk in the park. All I said is that nothing has ever stopped me from working out before. I have Aspergers and OCD--I am literally autistically attached to to working out.

If that is true LL is nothing for you...
