How long can nails left in?
« on: December 25, 2024, 09:54:18 PM »

Upon reassessment I realize my actual height is possibly slightly lower than 165. I am not sure becuase I measure differently at different times every time, I will measure 5'4.8 at one time and exactly 5'5 at a later time. This wouldnt matter if 8cm femurs actually added 8cm, but it seems it adds somewhere along the lines of 7-7.5cm to true height. This has really shaken me up becuase it fked up my chances of hitting my goals which I had set in stone for years. This means I may only end up 172 after femur lengthening, and a realistic max of 178 instead of 179. Now I consider Paley option (4+4)x2 option which would bring me to essentially exactly 5'11 if I get all 16 (assuming femur loss is accurate, otherwise I'd probably stop at 15cm).

My concern here is the price is super high, which I may be able to tolerate but only over a VERY long period of time especially since I dont think my arm length (somewhere along the lines of 5'6-5'7) can tolerate a height of above 175cm while maintaining good proportions. So essentially id like to get the first 8cm done and then maybe like up to even 5 years later or more get the other 8 done. Just depends on money and many other factors.

Is it safe to leave the nails in for that long? And do any other doctors such as Assayag offer this method? He doesnt list it but I imagine if paley does it he could do it on request. I know what im looking for is really overkill but 1. I really prefer the long-legs aesthetic so a higher length is going to actually improve my proportions to my personal taste and 2. 180cm is the first height im sure I would 100% be fine with and not think about it at all anymore. I dont want to go through this many years of struggle and pain just be unhappy and think I could've done more. Obviously will listen to doctors, my true goal is "do as much as I possibly can" but im putting a big emphasis on "possibly" and exploring every option.

People that pick an imaginary goal and obsess over perfect numbers and proportions are mentally ill and will never be happy. If falling short of your goal 1cm is that detrimental, then no one can help you my friend. LL isn’t a procedure to make you tall, it’s a procedure to give you what you can get, meaning you can get 3-5.5 inches safely (between 1-2 surgeries) above your starting height.

Don’t put your life on hold to obsess over a surgery. You can still save and aim to do it while creating social circles, building on goals, etc. to answer your question, nails become much harder to remove after 3-5 years. There’s no set number as everyone’s body is different, but some doctors won’t even attempt it if left for more than 5-10 years.

Obviously theres is definitely a level of mental illness to it, im fairly sure I have mild OCD due to this and other things in my life, and I expect my mindset to likely change or atleast be more close to correct after I'm 172 or 173 or whatever it ends up being. Falling short of my goal by 1cm isnt that big of a deal but for this situation it would either be hitting my goal or very close (Paley option 5) or falling short by 3cm which is like 1.4 inches (8cm + 5cm with 1 subtracted for femur curvature), which isnt an insane amount but its enough to matter. I'm just at a very specific height where im on the border of being able to possibly achieve an actually good height compared to achieving a height that is just decent (177+) or not bad (173+).

I don't put my life on hold much, I dont go to many social events because half it stresses me out and half I'm extremely busy, im more focused on personal goals and career. Getting funding for LL is my #1 goal on life by a huge, huge factor. I don't date right now becuase I'm currently overweight and I think the amount of results I'd get for my effort compared to just waiting until im more happy with my body due to weight loss and LL would be like 1/10th what it should be. So I'm choosing to bash my head into walls that I can atleast aspire to break through.

That’s exactly what I mean
I had a friend that didn’t want to date because he was overweight and had receding hair. He said he would try dating when he got a hair transplant, he actually met his current wife before that ever happened. You might miss out by trying to wait

Where are you getting this from? I did 8.3 cm and, as far as I can tell, I got the full amount or very close to it. You "lose" a tiny bit because of the femoral angle but it's a pretty minor amount (like 0.1cm).

Dr. birkholtz and Activatedxx said so, but from what I can tell it seems not to be true. I also now learned that precise can go to 8.2/8.3cm which is nice.
