I look squarish due to my very big and wide torso and short legs. Both, my tibia and femur are short but their ratios are normal, it's just my torso is very big and wide for them.

My goal is not only to become taller but also become less stocky and get balanced lower to upper body proportions.

I remember RGKEY who had the same stocky build with short legs and even though he lengthened 9 cm in his tibia, his short femur was sticking out in my eyes, although he looked better post tibial LL indeed.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to make realistic mock-ups to gauge how I'll look in case of 8-10 cm femoral LL or 5-7 cm tibial LL. What I know is that in case of significant femoral LL of 8-10 cm, I will wear long pants with boots and appear balanced, whereas doing tibia, I will be limited wearing very high waist pants with tucked in shirts in order to balance out short femur and long tibia.

Basically, goal is to become as long-legged as possible since my legs are very short relative to my huge and broad torso.

Which segment do you think is best to lengthen first in order to appear less stocky?

I recommend you to lengthen tibia, Lon method. As i have seen this is the best method and segment to go for LL, nearly no pain, fastest recovery. 7cm takes about 4 months to return to daily life. Choose your doctor wisely. You don’t need to worry too much about proportion. I have seen this girl (a patient of dr Doan - Vietnam) who underwent tibia lengthening twice in 1 year, from 149cm to 161cm(12cm) and she looks very fine and natural, maybe because her back is a bit long compared to her legs, but she doesn’t look like she did LL at all. Anyway, you can see pickle in baki, his long tibia makes him look more manly.
Here is pictures of a patient from Dr Doan who did 9.4cm tibia, it’s been 4 months since surgery day and he can walk like this, he can remove the crutchs in 2 weeks

you can watch his interview in dr Doan’s facebook: https://www.facebook.com/keodaichandrdoan?mibextid=kFxxJD

I will update pictures of the girl later

He might look good but it looks like that he has destroyed his t/f ratio which is not healthy at all having longer tibias than femurs…. Hopefully he is still doing femur as well

I've seen the results on that Vietnamese doc's Facebook page and some of his results kinda look aesthetically unacceptable IMO. The guy does 7, 8, 9 cm on tibia which is huge for that segment. Although Lee in Korea does 7 and even 8 cm with LON tibia too, at least his results are superb for that method.

I would go to Russia for pure external tibial LL of 6 cm rather than do LON in Vietnam. At least in Russia those docs are mostly doing corrections on women's tibia and know how to deal with possible deformities during LL and fix them before consolidation phase.

As for cost, $15k is too much for doing this in Vietnam since in Russia with pure external it can be done for $5k.

You haven’t included the accommodations, food and physiotherapy in russia. With that in the total cost in Russia might be more than $20k
Cost for surgery with Dr Doan is $10k and $5k is for physiotherapy and 3 months stay.
If you go to russia you still should do Lon, and it’s should be this kind of frame, the best frame rn (no pain, fast recovery)

The pure external and LATN method is a lot more painful, high risk of infection and complications than Lon method. The ankle movement is so restricted that it’s hard to stretch your soft tissues. Your soft tissues failed to meet up with the lengthening so you have a lot of pain and longer times of recovery so you actually paying much more for more accommodations and physiotherapy.
The cold in russia will even worsen the pain. The cold frame makes your leg ache all the times.
The climate in hanoi is good all year.

I know that I have to pay for accommodation and other expenses but it can be optimized and there are many docs in Russia to choose from who specialize in Ilizarov devices.

Also, they don't use monolateral frames there, only full-ring Ilizarov frames which are very sturdy for pure external tibial lengthening.

As for doing LON, it's an option but not necessary. 5-6 cm can be done without nails in about a year and LATN is also an option there which provides greater stability than LON nails.

P.S. Infection risk is highest with the LON method compared with LATN. Even pure external lengthening is safer in terms of getting deep bone infection than LON.

Well it’s up to you to choose your method
The lon nail is compact and stable enough that there has never been a break
I underwent Lon method and seeing other patients who underwent lon method and gave all good results and experience. Of course it depends on which doctor, a bad doctor gives bad results. You can read the dairies of all the methods and learn more.
I used the old circle frame and not even the best frame rn that gives no pain and it still feels good.
So it’s has the highest chance of infection. Tell me a case that used this frame and got infection

Being long torso'd is a good base for doing LL. In general, people will do femurs if they only do one of the two segments. It's safer, has a better recovery, less noticeable scarring, and allows you to lengthen more than if you just did tibias.
