Question about user controlled PRECICE
« on: September 08, 2023, 03:10:42 PM »

What are the chances that the device malfunctions and extends more than it should or doesn't stop extending? Is there a programmed limit inside the device to prevent this or the user from extending past a certain limit in a time frame?

That sort of a limit is configurable. Like a daily limit. The problem is what if the device thinks it is not extending but it actually is. A friend did encounter this and solved it by timing the lengthening sessions and going with that time rather than what the device says. But it is rare

The Precice nail only goes up to 8cm (well technically 8.3cm if you unlock the ERC machine).

I didn't know how much I had lengthened so I just kept lengthening. Eventually, once you hit the end of the nail, it will make weird popping noises. At that point, you know that you can stop lol.

prior to nail insertion into the canal they test nail in the operating theater to make sure there are no issues with lengthening to the full 8 and it stoping
after that as others have mentioned there are daily limits and session limits placed on the erc

According to Lee-Dong Hoon's paper, the maximum error for lengthening of about 5 cm with PRECICE2 was 3 mm.

Your doc should test the device before the surgery. Afterwards, you can validate those claims with rentgen pics. Alas if something is wrong, another surgery is required.
