Question for tibia lengtheners with external frame
« on: July 22, 2023, 01:43:05 PM »

Hey
Im currently at consolidation phase but dealing with 2 infected pin sites.
The surgeon is considering taking them out and replace them with new ones. I prefer just taking them out.
The surgeon says its not wise and may cause instability of the frame.
But I already did a second surgery to replace two pins, and one of the new ones got infected now. So I feel really bad keep drilling holes in my leg.

In other places I see the monolateral fixator and it seems they have considerably less pin sites than mine. I currently have 6 large pins and 2 kwire smaller pins.

The question is - if tibia can be stabled with 3-4 pins, perhaps I can manage with only removing a pin or two, without putting new ones instead.

One of the infected pin the uppermost site in the medial knee, and it's infected so bad and really painful. I'm really discouraged of putting a new pin in this sensitive area..

Anyone got a clue from his experience?

You frequently post about similar topics and tend to ignore the responses they receive.
You reveal your story in pieces, making it challenging for others to understand.
You should gather the details of your situation and present them in a single post.

Why have you lengthened only one leg in a circular external?
In which country did you undergo the surgery?
These are important pieces of information, but you haven't mentioned them.
If you prefer not to disclose due to privacy concerns, please state so.
