17 year old boy 166 cm
« on: May 13, 2023, 08:28:21 AM »

Hi, everyone!

I am a 17 year old boy from Canada and have been considering limb lengthening surgery for quite a while. People have made fun of me for my height at school (5 feet 4) and I don't think I'll grow anymore as my growth plates are closed. Doctors say that the growth plates on my legs and arms are closed, but they say that my torso could grow a few more cm if I do stretching.

My parents are the main cause for all of this since all of my other siblings are the taller than me. I have given up and it seems that this surgery could be the only way out. However, people at my school have been are aware of the surgery and I am scared to do anything. I was thinking of going through with the surgery this summer, so that I could be ready for school and walk more normally(my parents are okay with it), but I just don't want it to be well known or obvious.

I have been reading this forum for a while, but I also stumbled upon a d group where there is good feedback from Dr. Becker. Does someone have any experience with all of this and how I can cope, because I just can't take it anymore.

you can't recover fully over summer break. if your gait is compromised people will definitely notice. if keeping this a secret is important, finish highschool first and take a gap year if you're going to college.

I know from experience when I was your age, that having low confidence, you care alot what other people think. The only things I have found working for this, is just to get rid of what makes you insecure, in this scenario your short stature, but also facing your fear, by as an example expressing an onpopular opinion or putting you in situation of being judge by others. Its uncomfortable, but over time doing this will make confidence higher and it will most likely make you care less about what other people think.

I have heard that Becker should be a decent option in EU, but I have yet to have stumbled upon any diarys from him on this forum? I can also recommend Dr Giotikas in Greece. He has decades of experience in this field, and has the best prices for value ratio in EU in my personal opinion.

Lol. Giotikas dpesnt have decades of experience in this field... He finished his fellowship in 2012 or 2014 and hasnt worked that much as a consultant to be honest. All is written on his website btw... I would guess he is working in this field like 5-8 years and some mistakes he made with past patients shows he is still in the learning curve.

I get that you put your hopes in him because he is cheap but I would think twice

When I say in this field I mean the work he has also done as a trauma surgeon. This also requires much more than cosmetic LL
