How many times should x-rays be done?
« on: December 24, 2022, 02:07:23 PM »

Hello everybody,

I'm just confused a bit. Let's say I did this tibias surgery with pure TSF external but want to leave after like 3-4 cm so I can finish the lengthening in my home country for lets say 5-6 cm.

Should I take x-rays in my home country and send it to the doctor? how? how to hide it? is there any way to take x-ray and hide it at the same time? Like don't want the hospital where I do x-rays to know about my surgery.

Also, is it possible to not take x-rays after leaving until the bone growth done?

Thanks in advance.

You should take x-rays about once per month to monitor consolidation and check for misalignments.  This is so you can adjust your lengthening rate to avoid both premature consolidation and non-unuion, and so adjustments can be made to the fixators to prevent deformity.  The rate is fine to do remotely but for deformity prevention you'll need to be near the doctor so he can do adjustments.

As far as I know you can't just go into a hospital and buy x-rays no questions asked.  A doctor with the ability to prescribe x-rays at that facility has to do so in order for you to get them.

I think you should just stay with your doctor.

I understand but that's a big problem.

I don't want to stay longer than 2 months with my doctor. I really was thinking to just continue lengthening process in my home.

But now another problem it's the adjustment of potential deformity as you mentioned.

I really don't know what to do... soo suck. I really can't even stay 2 months beside the doctor let alone stay for the whole process which it's a good 8-9 months until frames removal.

It seems impossible.

I think even with internals, you'd be taking a big risk to not be within a reasonable distance of your surgeon - doubly so for external devices. This isn't a one-and-done procedure.
