Questions for femur nail removal patients
« on: November 18, 2022, 06:01:22 PM »

1. How did the first few days after femur nail removal surgery feel for you?

2. What were some tasks that were particularly painful or difficult to do?

3. What was your physio/stretching routine given to you in the 1-2 weeks after the nail removal surgery and how painful was it for you?

1. I was able to walk after the removal surgery and my legs felt lighter. Walking was wobbly..
2. I went to the gym 2nd week and only did upper body workout
3. I was not able to lie on my sides and did not take much pain killer. Incision site were a bit painful. Much easier than the original surgery. I didn't stretch the first couple of weeks

Oh that's great, we don't need to stretch after the nail removal? I remember the stiffness after the original femur surgery and it felt like I had lost alot of range of motion

I started to stretch and use resistance band after couple of weeks. I didn't stretch right after the surgery because I wanted the incision sites heal and I was sore in those areas

Yeah I sort of wonder, I do know one girl in Athens who is using the resistance bands during physio (she finished lengthening) but I haven't asked the PT's about it yet

I haven't used resistance bands yet but I assume that the pulling the band outward with legs might be related to helping someone walk better/more stably?

Strengthening and stretching will improve walking. I lost all my butt muscles after the surgery and Still trying to gain all back so I am doing resistance band and leg workout @ the gym. I don't want to have flat butt and takes a while to build it because they drive the nail through that area. I am not tight any more since I stretch daily. I regained 70% of my leg muscles and I walk almost perfect.

yeah I wonder, I'm at around 5 cm now for femurs. I'm not sure at what point its good to do glute exercises but I imagine patients start out w/ the resistance band (spreading legs exercises) and then eventually the bones get strong enough for uh lets see..

At the gym I seem to remember there are those lying on belly leg raise machines that use glutes or something

I forget if some abductor muscles are around that area or not, can't remember medial glute or something

And I guess there is the leg press which should use quads and glutes

There's zero weight deadlifts (lifting a bar with no weight on it) but I imagine my hamstrings will be still tight enough that the hamstrings will end up doing the 'work'

Get your doctor approval for light resistance band glute building exercises while lying down on the ground. Your bones are fragile while lengthening and do not go to the gym to do leg exercises

Ask your doctor if you can do side lying clam shells with no resistance band or very light one
