How much time needed after surgery to walk without crutches?
« on: March 29, 2022, 02:10:01 PM »

Title says it all, I've been reading contradicting info on this. Some people say they can walk for a while without assistance after 2 months, Betzinstitute told me told me 6-8 months though to walk without crutches. Guys who have done it with Betz have told me they were walking after 2 months. I'm really confused, I know it's personal from man to man but I wanna get a clear idea of the average?

It varies from person to person but better to assume 1 month per cm in case of femur and 1.5 month per 1 cm in case of tibia.

Yes I don't mean how much time to 'lengthen' and get to my goal but instead my question is, how much time after surgery would be needed before I can walk around without assistance or crutches

I was talking about walking without assistance only. If you do 6 cm femur then 6 months but if do you 6 cm in tibia then it should take around 9 months as tibia heals slowly.

I would say it really depends on your body and your exercise plan. Each individual is very different, it usually takes 6 months to 1 years.

Based on most papers I've read are from 1.2 - 2.6  months per cm for tibia with pure external device

Theoretically, you can do it the next day, but in practice? There's far too many factors to consider. In reality, it can be anywhere from a couple of weeks after you finish lengthening to several months after.
