Safety/effect of botox during femur lengthening?
« on: January 21, 2024, 05:01:51 PM »

I've recently learned of a technique to 'ease' the lengthening process by injecting botox into the muscles during distraction.

At first glance, this seems pretty innovative, as it will create significant pain + tension reduction, however, is there a known catch (e.g. lost athletic recovery potential)?

Otherwise, why wouldn't all surgeons practice this by default?

According to this study:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5085937/

It makes no discernible difference. Although the study has limitations such as a somewhat low dose.
I would imagine it makes no difference as it relates to recovery as botox is temporary.
