How long before surgery does one have to quit nicotine usage (cigarette, etc)?

Check the table on page 2.

I think that it is at over 8 weeks (or between 2-3 months) that the decrease in complication risk actually becomes statistically significant, but I would stop vaping/smoking asap. Quitting months before LL may be okay but quitting on the order of years before is much better. LL is a big undertaking and you want to be 100%, with the wound healing and tissue formation abilities of a nonsmoker.

Also, nicotine can be a b*tch to quit so I'd give yourself plenty of time.

I’d be careful of having the mindset of cutting it as close as possible to the surgery. I’d say quit now.

Thanks for the responses. Honestly, I only smoke when I drink (5 - 8 cigs a week), and that only started in the last two months or so. I imagine I'm in the clear if I stop now and have surgery scheduled in two months. Thoughts?

Paley's website just says stop smoking. So 2 months could be okay. Just stop it anyway dude.

Yeah, definitely stopping. Was never addicted, thank God. Just want to make sure I'm in the clear.
