Tibia lengthening
« on: June 23, 2020, 05:54:59 PM »

5ft1/2 male, 18 year old. Goal is 5ft5,6. I am thinking of doing 8cm on my femurs and gain 3inchea hopefully, with Dr mahboubian as he is prob the best surgeon after Paley. But Dr mahboubian pricing is abit too high still, 80$, could cost 90-100$ including food housing, maybe less which is fine. But I still wouldn’t really be happy with the 3 inches, as my goal is 5 inches which I would have to do another surgery on the tibia. I was wondering if there are any patients who have done tibia lengthening as it’s more risky/ hard then the femurs, please reply/ help, Thank You. Or I might jus go for femurs as 3 inches is still 3 inches...

Dear Gman,

In the proper hands, Tibia lengthening is as safe as femoral lengthening. It is just a matter of choosing a surgeon who is familiar with the risks and will use all adjuncts possible to decrease them.

When doing tibia lengthening, gatrocnemius recession, common peroneal nerve release, anterior compartment fasciotomies and proximal and distal syndesmotic fixation are key.  Those adjuncts are the reason why the procedure is slightly more expensive.

I would advise not discounting on the price as untreated complications can potentially be crippling. Ask yourself what is the price of safety.

There are many excellent surgeons  who do cosmetic limb lengthening and who are part of the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society (LLRS/ ASAMI) . I myself have been trained by Dr. Rozbruch, just like Dr. Mahboubian, but I also have been trained by Dr. John Herzenberg, who, in the field of limb lengthening, is just as Iconic as Dr. Paley. to be exact, they have partnered for 20 years, time during which they advanced the field of limb lengthening tremendously.

I hope this helps you make your decision :) Happy lengthening!
