Doing the LL while young is absolutely part of the urgency. Otherwise I'd just buy a place then wait a few years and do the LL.

I have read a lot on the matter, but it gets confusing as there are so many different methods with different people saying different things about each in some cases.

Doesn't pure externals lead to muscles being permanently destroyed because you cant weight bear though.

No they dont. The externals are able to bear the body weight on their own.

Thanks for all this info guys.
Roughly what could I expect to pay for external only? I'd have to imagine its significantly less since it seems a lot more time consuming and I assume leaves much more scars. If I were to "only" do 6 centimeters I would have to be in them for 6 months at least? And then awhile to start walking normally right?

Probably more like 7-8 months.  I was going to stay in Serbia for 9 months for my 7.5cm if things had worked out there for me.

Walking normally?  Who knows.  I never walked normally until a few months after frame removal.  Some people can walk and even run in their frames, but it varies significantly on a case by case basis.

Interesting... If it were super cheap that is a potential solution, but otherwise its not the best idea since most likely I'll still be leasing a place simultaneously and those costs in conjunction with accommodations would really stack up and end up pretty close in terms of cost.

Not if you're doing this surgery in Russia.. no matter what, externals will be your cheapest option.

Beijing charges an extra $1000 a month for accommodations, and you might be able to get them to lower their price on the surgery to offset that if you just want external-only.

I swear this forum is beyond comical sometimes. Should I do LL or buy a house?

You're paid 100k+ a year and can't answer this question by yourself? it's embarrassing.

I think buying house is overrated. There was a study or something showing how home owners these days are very unhappy. It's probably better just to rent a apartment and do your lengthening.

Also- I believe he said that he needs a house to store a large piece of equipment. Definately try Craigslist for that, you'd be surprised.

You can then skip the house purchase and rent instead.

I don't think its comical to compare the pros and cons of each. It should also be said its not literally a house vs. LL, but a significant chunk of savings towards a house vs. LL. Being happy in your own skin is important but obviously if I was informed I could never purchase property if I did LL for some reason I wouldn't pursue that.
I view both of them as smart investments because of the significant payoffs in many aspects of life. But part of the reason I'm posting here is because I do have reservations about delaying one of my chief ambitions so significantly.

You could also look into LATP for a reduced fixation time. It costs about the same as LON/LATN but there's no risk of knee pain. Downside is there aren't as many studies on bilateral plate fixation so it's not as clear as to how plate fixation will affect healing in adults.

Do you know anyone did plate fixation beside carige49..??
plate fixation sound much safer that nail rod ... I read it's even has less chance for cusing infection comparing to nail rod but I think this is only applicable for LON/ LOP..

I believe Smallguy had a plate inserted. Though it was inserted incorrectly or bent which caused problems. There's less chance of infection with plates but it can still happen. You avoid the possible chronic knee pain that you can get with tibial nailing though.

I wonder then why the doctors choose nail rod in their majority of LL cases !
could that be just to promote and advertises their nail ...?

the plate fixation is widely used for multiple fractures which is sometime leave a gap on the bone around 6 or 7 cm ! so I guess it's same outcome of limb lengthening..
