Can you feel if a nail or screw is bended/broken?
« on: October 14, 2019, 01:12:18 AM »

Hey guys I wanted to ask if you can feel an internal nail or screw is bended/broken inside your femur. For example if you accidentally slip it fall down would you feel if something is broken/bended or not?
If the nail or screw would was broken, would you feel pain or uncomfortable or something like that?

I remember Kaper telling me he could feel some kind of problem near his knee, and a screw ended up being loose in that area.  He went and got it replaced.

1) nail bending
Normally you don't feel it. Can only be seen in x-ray.
2) nail broken
If your bones are not consolidated you will immediately feel it
If your bones are consolidated you might feel nothing. It might even not be
visible on x-rays and only be detected while removing the nail.

Do you think its a huge problem. For example you dont take x-rays for 3 months and during this time your nail or screw malfunction. This would be a waste of time am I right? if something is bended or broken during this period of time because with a malfunction nail you wont make progress during consolidation phase right?

Yes, you should get x-rays regularly until the bones have fully consolidated.

Just that he felt discomfort, but not severe, acute pain.  I don't remember more than that.
