Can a bone graft fail? What then?
« on: September 19, 2019, 10:35:41 AM »

I recently did LATN surgery. I now have a year until then my bones have to consolidate. If they don't, I need a bone graft.

What are the chances that a bone graft doesn't work?

What happens then?

I don't know what is the percentage for it to fail but you are in big trouble if that happens, i was reading about aumputation in the most extreme cases

In the worst case after trying everything the bone still does not heal then amputation is a viable option according to this: https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is_amputation_justified_in_an_unhappy_case_of_long_standing_tibia_non-union_preceded_by_many_unsuccessful_operations2

It seems like if the patient wants to continue living without amputation he can.

Be optimistic Great321. If you have been a healthy individual it should heal.

Just a question, why did you not pause lengthening you noticed less bone growth? Didn't the doctor advise you to do so?

I believe you can reverse and short the amount lengthened, than try a new bone graft. But I don't know.
