Notification of Illness
« on: October 25, 2019, 04:58:13 PM »

Hey Guys,

Im planning to go for LL at January 2020 by Dr.Betz. I work at a big Pharma concern and dont can sit the whole day. What do you think is a realistic time I should plan to return back to work after the surgery?
What did you tell your doctors for getting a Notification of Illness ? Did you tell then about LL, or sth. else...

Any ideas ?

Are you doing femurs? I'd recommend you to return to work only 2 months after lengthening if you have to stand during work.

Yes 6cm Femur.Dr.Betz told me, it is possible to return to work after 2 weeks ? What do you think about that?

He also said standing during work would be better instead of sitting.

Well, I did way more than you (9cm my left femur, 10cm on my right femur) so in my case I wouldn't have been able to work just 2 weeks after lengthening - my duckass was pretty bad and my leg muscles were weak.
But you're doing just 6cm and the current Betzbone is stronger than the one I had in 2012. So maybe it's possible.
But I'd try to be on the safe side and give myself 1 or 2 months post lengthening.

Would you recommend Dr.Betz? In this Forum are many different opinions of him... .

He said years before he used a nail, made of another metal. But I don’t really can imagine to go back to work 2 weeks after surgery. You are talking  about 2 months after lengthening. So how many months your were not going to work ?

I could not work for months due to the discomfort. I have a job that requires a lot of cognitive activity (concentration), and online meetings at pre-determined times. I was not able to sleep reliably and was in too much discomfort to work, even working from home. Please be prepared not to be able to work for the entire lengthening period, depending on the type of work you do.

Based on my own experience, I can recommend Betz so far.  I am in the consolidation phase and am doing quite well.

I do recommend him for femurs, especially because you will be doing just 6cm. I had a great result with him, I can't really complain. It really changed my life for the better. And I did recover my athletic ability post-surgery even with an extreme amount of lengthening, so Betz did something right. :) He used to say that I had "perfect compliance" (I really followed his instructions to the letter) which is not usual for male patients.

Having said that, the last centimeter were really painful. It is not a walk in the park.
I had the luck of having a lot of other LL patients with me at Park Hotel, so that made the whole situation better and actually fun.
I'm a little nostalgic about it. It was like a crazy college dorm with people on crutches... :P

I can work from home and I usually work by projects (not a 9-to-5 job), so I had a little bit more flexibility than you, as I didn't have to come back to a daily job. It took me 4 months of lengthening and I could not work AT ALL. The pain and lack of concentration power (due to the painkillers and overall pain) made impossible to work in a professional level.

I only went back working 3 months after lengthening. I used those 3 months pos-lengthening to concentrate on my physiotherapy. I think it really paid off and my recovery was much better because of it.

But again, I did 9cm/10cm and with the old nail. I think your recovery will be much faster with 6cm and the new nail. But you should plan to not work during lengthening and at least 2 (maybe more) months later if you can (I know that's not possible for everyone).

Dude, fk off.
I'm telling my experience with Dr. Betz, I'm not affiliated with him at all.
Stop being paranoid thinking no one had good results with the guy.
Even the patients that some people use as an example of "bad results", like Andrewshizzles, are pretty happy with their result right now (I use him as an example because we were at the Park Hotel during the same time).
I suggest you book a consultation with Betz and see for yourself how many current and potential patients the guy has.

He does not need a random guy like me advertising for him.
I'm here in the forum just because I'm interested in doing tibia now and II'm choosing between Stryde and Betzbone.
I had no idea Betz had become some kinda of forbidden doctor in this new forum.

I’m still on crutches two months after lengthening ended, but am able to walk short distances without them in the last few weeks. I’m thinking it will take a few more months to be complete rid of crutches.

hey,

I am a current Betz patient. May I ask at which centimeter your duckass started and how long it took after lengthening for you to walk normal? Thanks
