Anyone considering Dr Franz Birkholtz this year?
« on: February 16, 2014, 06:22:26 PM »

Yeah he sounds like a good option.  I am considering him but at the end of next year.  I would like to hear from some of his patients before I commit to him though.

I'm currently saving up.

Plus, I have to deal with my problem from the last surgery. Luckily unlike other ppl I have no pain whatsoever. But my left tibia is shorter than my right by 1cm. This really bothers me. So I may have to try to fix this first at home before heading abroad for femur lengthening.

So the earliest time would be end of 2014. And I would choose Dr. Birkholtz.

I am the type of person who plans long term. I have alot of money saved up, but not enough yet. Maybe in few months I have it. I have also the option to take up loan.
If something happens to my work, like I dont get the pay rise I demand, then i will change job and I will create a 4-6 month gap between resignation and the new job. If I sense such scenario coming up I will immediately book appointment and get on the first plane.

I do things on impulse and fast.

One of the last patients to use the PRECICE 2.2 nail. I met the first STRYDE patient and I strongly recommend the new STRYDE nail instead.

You may be the pioneer Birkholtz diary if you do this by May. You and (perhaps) BigD.

I hope the diaries would live to my high expectations.

Hey guys,

It is wonderful to see that there is some interest.

Maybe consider linking up and scheduling together. It will be very beneficial psychologically to have a buddy to share experiences. We could also probably look at a small group discount too! (Now i sound like a businessman and not a doctor...)

Good luck with the decision!

It makes me really happy to see Dr. B get the recognition he deserves. :)  I'm definitely going with you this May 2014.  Who's in with me?  ;D

Hope you guys who finalize on this with Dr. Birkholtz end up with great results. :)

Maybe a couple years after I do my tibias this March I'll go with Dr. Birkholtz for femurs - if I decide I would want to do them. Main reason for not going for femurs first is based on the chance that I don't feel like doing a second lengthening. I think functionally and aesthetically it would be better to only do tibial lengthening vs only doing femoral lengthening.

How crazy would it be if I got Quad lengthening? LOL

I'm REALLY surprised Paley is doing it, so I gotta check out that girl's diary on the forum who's doing quad lengthening to see if I would fit.

I'm keeping a close eye on her diary too.  It blew my mind that Paley was fine with quadrilateral lengthening (and even has a lot of cases!)

Not many (or not at all?) quad lengthening diaries out there.

Dear Dr. Birkholtz,
Is it possible to see more picture of the hospital, rooms and facility? This is a life changing decision and want to buy piece of mind. Not that we do not trust your hospital. But will be big to aid in decision making. Sorry if this is too much of asking. You been amazing, hats off to you and hope we have more doctors come forward help patients on this forum donating their demanding time.

I, myself and several others are talking privately to team up and possibly traveling to Pretoria this summer (around May).  Discount is nice but really trying to convince ourselves first and the family.

Best Wishes,
Cooper

Definitely.  If you could send any pictures of the guesthouse, this would be hugely helpful as well.

It looks like there is some interest in femurs, but please remember that a lot of our non CLL expertise lies in exfix based tibial lengthenings. Just a thought.

If I want to proceed with femur lengthening after I get done with tibs, then I'll certainly consider Dr Birkholtz for a consultation based on his contribution to the members of this forum and the whole online CLL community.
