Internal and externals
« on: April 26, 2014, 09:05:07 PM »

Any vets please correct this if I'm wrong.
For femurs
internal is better than externals due to the size of the pins
needed on the externals.

For tibs internals offer advantage of minimal scarring and less
pain yet much greater risk of lasting knee pain as any rod getting
put through the knee enhances this risk.
So the main ways around the knee pain issue are lengthening then
plating or staying in the frames until consolidated.

That seems to summarize the general wisdom on the subject.
