Oldest recorded instances of Cosmetic Limb Lengthening? Studies?

The Ilizarov apparatus has been around since the 50s, and CLL developed from there. I think the vast majority of members are aware of the immediate and (relative) short-term risks of LL here, but I don't see much talk about the long term. Are there any studies out there that followed the early CLL patients? Did their situation deteriorate in old age? I think this would be important information to know, even for those who have made their research and are aware of the surgery's and its initial years' risks.

As far as I remember there was a guy in this forum who had done LL in the past and was in his fifties.

No, there isn't any serious research about long term effects of LL.

In my opinion, if bone alignment is normal and there is no big lengthening (more than about 6cm per segment) there won't be major problems compared to someone who haven't done LL.
But misalignments will cause premature arthritis and the bigger they are the sooner they will.

The doctor I dealt with in my homeland when I returned told me that in 35 years he has not seen any serious complications from lengthening anymore than 15% of initial bone length. I asked about arthritis he said if the bones are properly aligned then no but if tibias lose alignment (removal of frame too soon or walking in intramedullar rods too soon causing compression and misalignment or rods put in incorrectly and they are poorly aligned) then yes chances are increased. He did say that people who attempted to lengthen ideal amounts vs suitable amounts also had extremely long recovery times and also typically needed soft tissue surgery to improve the function.
