External Fixator, each leg apart
« on: July 24, 2017, 08:28:04 AM »

Hello,

I'm going for leg lengthening at the end of the summer. The only problem I have is that I have work and can't leave for long time.

So I decided to do each leg apart (Tibias 4cm). I'm not doing it to be taller, I just have proportions issues.

So can you please tell me how much exactly i need time in order to to finish a leg (Full recovery) and what are the steps exactly.

Thank you <3

anything between 5 months  and over 1 year in frames from the day of surgery. No one even the best doctors will be able to tell how long you will have to wear them.

If you lengthen @ 0,666mm per day, it will take you 60 days on average to reach 40mm.
If you take up to 5mm due to pin bending into account and do not lengthen once a week to reduce pain, it will be 78 days for the lengthening phase.
Your doctor will advise you to not lengthen anything during the first 5-10 days after surgery.

I hope you're planning to do external LON and not just externals only, or it's gonna take like forever to do both of your legs.
Sadly, I only have experience with lengthening my tibias to 2,3cm (instead of my goal of 4cm).
I did external LON, and now - close to 6 month post surgery - my legs feel strong enough again if I wanted to do another surgery.
But I'm not "fully recovered" yet, for I don't jump or run and I don't intend to until 9-12 month post surgery.

Hope that gives you a rough overview about how long it might take you to finish one leg.

Ps: "each leg apart" is called "unilateral lengthening" :-)
