CANADIANS who lengthened from home! HELP
« on: October 11, 2020, 04:08:14 PM »

Hello to my fellow Canadians,

Has anyone lengthened from home as a Canadian?  If so, how are you sending the X-rays to your doctor? My plan is to lengthen with the doctor for a month and then return back home to continue life/work if possible.  Initially I considered strictly lengthening with the doctor for approx. 3 months but if it were an option to do it back from home then why not.

I've tried getting pre-op X-rays here in Canada but with little success... was offering to pay at all times but no-one would do it.  Their reason was that it one, had to be requisition(like an X-ray prescription) from a doctor in Canada.  I was offering to pay ofc but nope.  Any advice from my Canadians on how to do so? Would be greatly appreciated and for sure change my initial plans if it were viable!

init1alove thanks! I've messaged him on his diary already with the same question.  He did do his distracting in Florida but was getting medical assistance and X-rays done post distraction in Canada so that would be what I'm looking for.  Hopefully he gets back to me and I can have a chat with him.  Would be a game changer as I could finish distracting at home.

The issue with distracting from home is that it is a risky gamble.

It is much harder for the surgeon to monitor complications and obstacles, and reaction time to solve issues is decreased.

One has to be willing to come back on a whim if something unplanned happens that needs hands on troubleshooting.

Food for thoughts.

Thanks Micheal for the insight! I have thought about it and the cost of staying out of the country and not meeting or attending to clients far exceeds the instant flight ticket back.  However that being said, if it were to negatively impact recovery to take these flights back and forth or the constant travel then I would certainly put priority on my legs without a doubt.

The important part is that you are aware of the risk/ benefit ratio.

Here is my advice to you: stay local for a couple weeks. Make sure the rod are working and that there’s no immediate complication. Then go back home :) where in Canada are you from? I’m from Quebec City !

Thanks again! My plan is to stay for at least a month before I head back.  Raised in Ontario and BC.  Shifted a few places from Vancouver to Toronto areas.  *Insert Canada Flag*  (Not sure how to do different emojis here)

Two questions for you since I've seen that your posts around and know that you're an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
1. Since you're from Canada, would you know how the best way in getting private X-rays are here?  (Or somehow obtain them here)
2. Does Finasteride (propecia) affect the lengthening procedure? I know it inhibits testosterone which is/maybe essential for bone growth? I'm no doctor of course, this is almost deducted from bro science...  Let me know please and thank you :)

I’m one of the limb lengthening surgeons. I practice at the International Center for Limb Lengthening in Baltimore.

In canada you’ll need a prescription. There are many private radiology locations (at least in Quebec).

as for Finasteride, to tell you the truth I am unsure it if hs any impact on regenerate growth. As far as I am aware, it is not a contraindication.
