Difference between Precise 1 and Precise 2
« on: January 30, 2015, 08:34:35 AM »

Can someone explain this to me?

Especially, comparisons of:

1. maximum extension capacity
2. cost of obtaining
3. availability in India
4. relative weight bearing capacities
5. whatever else makes one an improvement upon the other

1. maximum extension capacity
Femur: Precice I - 6.5cm  &  Precice II - 8cm
Tibia - both 6.5cm
2. cost of obtaining
Precice II was only option with my doctor
3. availability in India
Not sure I did my with Dr Mahboubian in Los Angeles
4. relative weight bearing capacities
Not weight bearing - 150lb max capacity 75lb per leg
5. whatever else makes one an improvement upon the other
Stronger detraction strength and  less nail failures

Precice 1 had a staggering amount of failures from everything I found. Paley acknowledged some of these himself.

Thanks so much. Covers everything. How long after full distraction did you become full weightbearing ie. not requiring walker to get around the house? Referring to PRECISE 2 with this question.

That wildly varies. A friend who did 5cm was walking in around a month/month and a half after finishing and is playing sports with 100% recovery at 3 months finished. Another who lengthened 8 CM like me was walking in 2 months, whereas I am actually not technically 100% healed in one leg after 3 months. And I heard of Paley referring to someone who had spent 3 months and broken the rod because he was still not healed, but would have been around 4 months.

Others at much less length can heal near instantly. My impression is almost all will heal in less than 2 months with 5 CM or less, potentially faster, with 8 CM taking 2-3 in most cases, although my right leg was fully healed in about a month and a half!

Programdude is right on the money my right leg was full weight bearing 53 days after last detraction and my left will be 64 days if my doctor gives me the green light later this month.

I was curious if there was anyone else, or anyone, anyone else knows of who did the Precise 2 for femurs for the maximum/8cm and it took longer than 3 months to be WBAT and/or healed.

I realize that in theory it should take longer but one of the ideas I'm tossing around is if I were to do thus, doing it in the summer when I go back to school for nursing, which would give me from mid may to late August. I realize the process shouldn't be expected to be rushed to become fully FWB or WBAT, it's just therwise it's looking very likely to be a 3-4 year delay for me if not this way.

Bro, 3 months is when you stop lengthening, not when you start walking. Better read more diaries and wait a few more years.

I appreciate you guys setting me straight on that, and looking out.  I've been reading up on Guichet and his pts a lot, but with some recent life events changing some things, I started looking at other doctors and their methodologies.

I read a diary about Precise 2 with Dr. Elbatrawy, and have contacted him a few times via email and now with Dr. Parihar , (who seems to be spoken of highly in the diares, and his training with Paley, etc), doing Precise 2 as well, some how I mentally majorly gaffed and misunderstood and had wishful thinking when reading.... definitely not a good in something of this magnitude to say the least.

Thanks again for pulling my head out of the clouds.
