HOW OLD IS TOO OLD TO HAVE LL DONE?
« on: March 19, 2014, 12:45:16 AM »

I am curious, I am in my mid 30's finally saved up for this surgery, would somone who is 45-50 have to worry about non-union? how about 60's?

I know obg did his at 40 plus but I am not talking about outliers..

This is what the Beijing Institute of External Fixation Technology says in their FAQ.

Q: At what age is it possible to undergo the cosmetic height increase procedures?
A: The age of patients may be from 16 to 45 years, in rare cases the age limit can go up to 50 plus years for combined lengthening and deformity correction treatments.

Q: I am a 50 year old male. My height is 154 cm. I would like a maximal lengthening (170 cm up). Is it possible to
undergo the cosmetic height increase at my age?

A: The age for cosmetic leg lengthening is usually between 18-45 years old, the younger the better. However, Dr. Xia has performed cosmetic lengthening surgery in several cases for patients older than 50 years. For the older patients, the healing is bit slowly and we may lengthen at a slow rate, this means that you may have to stay in our hospital for longer period. But this can be done; we can also perform plastic surgery to remove the scars after the lengthening procedures (at reasonable costs). In your case, we will recommend you to come to our hospital and accessed by Dr. Xia in person, we can decide from there, as it is unfair for us to promise you anything at this stage.

It means not normal.  You are in very good shape and you did much better than many others who did LL.

Outliers are exceptions to the rule.

In this context, older patients (40 something and above) are prone to have more negative results (pain/non union/slow recovery etc), but OBG is an exception as he recovered fast.

But also take note that OBG's lengthening is conservative at 6cm, plus he is very fit. Those 2 things are very important.

I heard that up to 35 years is ideal. But that didn't stop many LLers. I.e. Jungle, he was 40 something, the guy liked it so much he did it 3 times.

I want to be an outlier... I thought it seemed to be the good thing to be :D
If I could only now get my demoralized, lazy unmotivated self to exercise more often then that should help I know.
