Shoe lift recommendations?
« on: April 23, 2016, 02:55:16 PM »

Hey guys, I joined here not too long ago and found out about LL only recently, I don't think I will be going through with it because of the whole process, it's just not for everyone. I'm 5'7.5 and I'm wondering if anyone has shoe lifts they used before. I'm thinking about buying 1 inch .75 inch and a .6 shoe lift. Can you guys tell me what you usually wore in low cut nikes? I pretty much only wear Nikes. I don't know that much about lifts so I don't know how much you could get away with but I definitely don't want to go over 1.25. I was looking at liftkits.com if anyone is familiar with it, also how long do lifts usually last? I don't want elevator shoes only lifts because I like to wear brand shoes. I understand lifts are not a permanent fix, but I'm not cut out for LL and just don't want to risk anything. Thanks guys for reading this.

http://www.amazon.com/Half-Elevator-Insole-Men-inches/dp/B0042LKX1E

I use those. They are cheap and cheaply made, but have lasted for a long time. I only do 1/2"

They have a rough edge on them that I trim off, otherwise it damages the inside of the shoe. They are very comfortable.

I put them in my Ecco or Allen Edmond boots, no idea on the nikes.

Edit: As far as "getting away with" lifts, it's the top of your foot pushing up against the tongue and lace area of your shoe that gives it away, depending on the shoe. If you go too high, your posture will give it away as well.

ya I'm familiar with those I understand those are mostly for low cut shoes, do you feel taller with that 1/2? I want to be able to wear .75 to an inch really. I guess I can wear the inch in higher top shoes. You think .75 could fit in lower shoes?

I edited my previous comment, make sure to read it.

If you go too high for the particular shoe, it will push the top of your foot into the tongue and lace area. This is uncomfortable and obvious (to me anyway)

I have no idea what will fit in a lower shoe, just gotta try it.

Yes, I feel taller. I stand 5'9 in them (1" heel on the boot, plus 1/2" lift = 5'9) Probably only feel taller because my wife and dad both stand at 5'9, so I am eye to eye with them when they wear flat shoes (which is almost always)

ah yeah I see what you mean. I think I'll personally just start buying shoes with a deeper sole and or higher ankle. Then I would be able to the 1 inch one in. .5 inch is better than nothing though. I could always wear it with shoes with a thicker heel. It's summer so I mostly wear shorts. I wouldn't want anyone  to see my foot sticking out of my shoe so I think I'll just stick with a 0.5 inch with nike air max maybe.

Height increasing insoles are NOT an alternative for lifts.

First, it raises your ankles and toes in a way that causes a lot of heat and friction against the top of the shoe. I now have thick callouses on my big toes. Sometimes when it gets sweaty, the insoles would slip forward and the insole heel is now lying below the foot arch, I'd have to stop and take my shoes off to reset.

After a while I started having a lot of pains in my ankles and shins, not recommended.

Tallmenshoes were my preferred lifts before I did LL.

Cheers
