I know this may sound like a silly question and I know that pre-consolidation is bad and requires another surgery to break the bone but is consolidation during the last month of the lengthening goal normal?  Or does consolidation only happen when you are 100% done lengthening?

If I understands the procedure correctly, "consolidation phase" is the part where you simply let your bone heal after you finished lengthening... The bone always consolidates, also during lengthening. That's why you must not lengthen at a too low amount.. If you do, the bone will "catch up" to the lengthening (pre-consolidation).

Some people get preconsolidation and they can't lengthen anymore. Other people get non-union. That's the reason why it's important to have X-rays every 2 weeks especially while lengthening. Careless doctors don't care and their patients get preconsolidation and non union.
