I have a family friend which is the head orthopedic surgeron of Jerusalem. According to him the best doctors to go to in order to get LL are either guichet or Catagni (Guichet for femoral and catagni for tibial). I asked him about Paley. He firmly said, dont go to him no matter what.

Understandable considering that Guichet and Catagni are known for having great result...but to dismiss Paley? Hm seems weird.

But more importantly... what does a guy like him know about LL and how does ilhe view it?

He knows alot about it (Where it is done in Israel and what for). He is not specialized in LL (He is specialized in reconstructing bones after they have been "blown appart" which in Israel is common due to war). About paley, he says that he is better at showing off on television than actually having good results (He also said he got kicked out of a hospital before creating his institute).
He says that it is indeed risky but not as much as the forum says it is. But if you go for it, go only with the best of the best

And he is not the only surgeon who would say that. Paley's past issues are worrying.

That being said, I think that after so many years Paley is experienced enought to be considered a reliable doctor (IMO). I just find unfair that he is treated like a god in this forum, while other doctors are being accused of being a scam with no evidence at all.

I have spoken to palye via e-mails. I told him I am a smoker. He said that it's ok if I stop 2 weeks before doing the operation. I asked our family friend and catagni... Both said that it is complete B*llsh*t. They said "atleast 6 months"

The thing with Paley is that he's pretty close with the manufacturing of the Percice nail, like Guichet is with his own nail, so to that regard I find it quite relaxing that he knows what he is doing. Also consider that Paley has done an amazing job at correcting child growth diformities and other corrective LL and it's not hard to see why he's probably one of the most experienced.

My only grip with him is what I feel is an overpriced procedure.

About the children's deformities... Think of this this way... The child and the parents would rather have their child walking a little bit strangely than having his leg amputated or having the child being a dwarf. There is a big difference about how you see the results when you enter such a procedure with alot to lose. Also he doesnt say how many failiures he has. He maxsimaizes the success stories and "erasing" the failiures.
In the end, do what you think is right.

Paley is very good. He is expensive but he is the best. Guichet is good too if you live in Europe.

My advice: do not go to Spain EVER no matter what. Lies everywhere. Read my posts. Betz sucks too. I could post about him but there are many posts in old forum and here. You all know.
