Should I consider this surgery?
« on: August 30, 2015, 03:37:29 PM »

I'm an 18 year old male. I'm 6'0 which is considered above the average male height (5'9). I would love to gain 3 more inches to hit 6'3. So should I consider this surgery? My growth plates (knees) are close to sealing off. I'm not sure if I should wait and see if I grow or I should go through with the surgery.

Can't wait for your feedback guys! Thanks!

generally people that are taller keep growing till they are 22, 23. my uncle was 6,3 feet when he was 18 but by when he was 22, 23 he was 6,7. he was so tall that he had to buy clothing and shoes in special places because normal clothes wouldnt fit him.

youll probably keep growing till you are 22, no need to do surgery.

That's wrong, males can grow until the age of 21, I don't think that you will grow more than an inch at most. I already finished growth at the age of 18 and many others stop earlier.
How tall are your parents, If I may ask? Do you have the money to spend at least 50 000$ for this?
If you think this is what makes you happy, go for it.

@6cm;

Thanks for the feedback. Your uncle grew 4 inches which is insane. I hope the best for him.

@Alittletooshort;

My father is 5'9 and my mother is 5'4. Well, my father's literally best friend is a great doctor who's expert in these kinds of surgeries and will do it for us for a very low amount of money.

Well, the growth plates hands are completely fused. By my feet, they're nearly fused. The ones by my knees are closing. My growth plates located by the hips are still open and my shoulders too. My vertebrate is expected to grow more too. So I guess this entire thread is stupid. When I came here, I meant to say that will I be able to grow or should I do the surgery.. I guess the surgery greatly weakens your body, right? So jumping my current height 6'0 would be much better than jumping at my surgery height 6'3, no?

I highly doubt that you'll grow a single cm more, you already are taller than your parents by a large amount.
If this doctor is experienced in internal devices for cosmetic limb lengthening then it's good for you.
Yes, your overall sportive performance will suffer If you do this.
You'll neither run faster or jump higher, nor will your legs be stronger or have a higher explosive strengh.
My dad's 6,2-6,3 and I'm only 5'10, just as a compersion.
Edit:
It's better to ask you dad's friend than anyone on this forum here. If he really is an orthopaedic surgeon specialized on limb lengthening then he'll now a lot more than anyone else here on the forum (besides Dr. Monegal of course  ;D).

If you aren't getting   done at 6', you aren't going to get   done at 6'3.
Huge waste of money, time, pain endurance but it's your life after all.

Well.. considering that I could potentially and theoretically grow slightly through my knees and considerably by my vertebrate and hips, I think I could grow more. I could get HGH considering my growth plates in my knees and the above aren't officially closed. How does that sound?

Well, when I think about it, my height is awesome. I probably didn't think too much when I made this thread. It's just stupid. 6ft and over is just amazing. Also I would not ever want to trade my physical abilities for just a few inches in height.

the amount of HGH to gain significant size will be as much as LL, or even more. I don't think people understand how expensive it is plus no doctor would give it to you unless your deficient in the actual hormone somatropin, you could go to a doctor and see, but it's actually more expensive to get it from doctors than on the black market, it also works best during the early stages of puberty but since your growth plates are still open you might still have a chance, if I was you I would just take the safer and legal route of LL, some people have to spend 8k a month for hgh, keep that in mind. also you're 6'0 wtf  you're definitely not deficient in somatropin that's a very good height, I'm sure most people rather be 6'0 over 6'3 too tall intimidates many people

I guess The perfect hate anybody could be gifted with is 190 cm. 190 cm with perfect muscles can open many doors. That is not to say that you should go with the surgery if u are  only 182 :)

No, OP wouldn't recommend, if I we're 6' I would not do the surgery and I live in a country where the average is 5'11,5.
