4 CM in 6 Months External?
« on: April 03, 2015, 04:26:41 PM »

Hello,

Is it possible to do 4 cm in 6 months for external tibias? I want this done in under 6 months because I think anything more than 6 months is just way too much. From my research, 4 cm seems like a very reasonable amount to lengthen with little complications. What do you think of this?

Yeah it is possible with average regenerate formation rate. No one can tell you if you will have it slower or faster though most likely it will be slower.

It's possible you'd end up wearing the frames for 8 months with just exfix if your surgeon doesn't think the regenerate is solid enough to remove them. Even after they're removed you'll be walking funny for a while. My local orthopedist said that once I get my frames removed I need to do physiotherapy for about as long as I've had the frames on in order to get back to my pre-CLL condition.

It's no walk in the park.

I'm hoping it doesn't take nearly that long to get back to my pre-surgery condition. But yeah, he wants me to have a weekly phsyio session for about a year and said it's absolutely needed.

though i doubt you need to see a therapist once a week

you can probably do the exercises at home after a few weeks

There's nothing a therapist can show you that you already don't know.

Pretty much.  The physical therapist I went to for a few sessions showed me one new exercise.

Walking and jumping on a trampoline are the two best things I did to recover from LL.

Hey 4cm in 6 months is definitely achievable but you will have to put a lot of effort in Eg  nutrition, stretching exercising and even though most people  lose weight  during get LL, the less you weigh it's better.

6 month seems to be a bit too short, isn't iy?
I remember that someone posted a chart that make the link between amount and recovery time
And 4 cm is ok, the risks are disminished but they are still present

Thanks. I think 4 cm is the perfect amount for me. I go from slightly below average in my country to a full inch above average. The only real issue is the 6 months. I wish there was a faster alternative without permanent knee pain. I'm not too worried about walking a bit funny for a few months after surgery, what really worries me is having the frames for six months.

Don't u want to consider the LON option, if you did you'd only be keeping the frame on for 2 months

We had physio twice a day about 30_45 min sessions, that included work mainly on the achiles heel and pushing it back, then while on the bed the physio would lift your legs in the air keeping them very very straight and pushing down on the knee at the same time, then my physio who was a girl she would press down on my leg to get the heel to touch the floor or another alternative is using 10_20kg  weight brings the foot right down, standing was very important especially for ballerina and leg bending , the more you do the better, I personally could walk with a walker, that depends on your weight and after frame removal they used sandbag to get the knee down. The most important thing is to wear the slippers they give you that makes the biggest difference, I didn't wear them and left with like 3inch ballerina.hope that helped

ty

well... at this point, i have no ballerina... most if not all of my issues are from my left leg alignment issues, but since i gad achilles surgery, wanted to try some  mobility exercises for ankle, achilles, and also strengthening exercises for entire leg

im starting to think i can just go to a gym and do all this... not sure what a pt could do for that i couldnt do,other than massaging the  scarring, etc

Fixators should easily come off in six months with nearly normal walking. RGKEY was back to normal in about ten months (in terms of daily activities).

rgkey is still not normal after 18 months?

theres a difference between  being able to perform daily activities, and  performing them with ease and comfort.. i can walk now.. if i have to go to the store, etc,  can do it.. but it's a chore...

the guy i know  who did 5 cm took maybe 14 to 15 months before was normal

I just want to do 4cm. The only guy on this forum who has done 4.3cm is wanabegaint. He had stopped updating his diary. Does anyone here know what's happening with him?

LON is not faster than LATN from what I have seen. The opposite is the truth. LON takes longer.

Where did you get that from?
