misaligment of bones in ilizarov
« on: February 27, 2015, 05:09:15 AM »

So there are 3 or 4 rods in the external fixator..

What can the doctor do if there is some angular misalignment of the tibia or fibula?

Can they advise you to turn more on one rod?

Or will there be manual manipulation of the device ? Fahri says it can be done in 5 minutes without surgery.....

In Beijing misalignments were handled by having patients turn more or less on certain rods.

Thanks I heard there are other ways, like in Barinov's clinic they actually could manipulate the frame manually??

Yes they did that manually with one patient. It is painful though because they press on the bone to force it in the "right place". The easier way is to turn the back rods more than the front. That is what I have been advised and I dont have misaligned bones anymore.

This is done very frequently in all clinics.

Yeah I thought about pressing the bone.. haha.

Well there are more barbaric treatments like loosening all the rods and pulling the frame apart... when premature consolidation.... :/

I hope I do not need to go through all this. But I need perfect alignment because I do sports.
