New guy and couple questions
« on: January 01, 2015, 06:00:14 AM »

Hello people, my first post in here.

So im a 165cm guy and id like to lengthen to atleast 175cm (5cm tibia, 5cm femurs). Does that sound like a good and safe plan to u?
Also thinking about 176cm (5cm tibia and 6cm femurs), would that be better proportion wise?
I would like to keep as much athletic ability as possible, no matter the cost.

Couple questions:

What is the best lengthening method for this? what would u suggest?

am i able to do sports like, skiing, running and leg workout after the surgery?

Is full recovery possible if i flex alot, train hard and do other helpful stuff?

Will i have knee pains for rest of my life after the surgery?

What would be the cost if i went to top surgery in europe? Around 80 000€, right?

Thanks

it seems external tibia is safe and duration for full weight bearing is shorter or the same as LATN/LON/Precise.
You can consider 8 cm tibia (any method) and 4 cm femur if you wanna do external femurs with dr bagirov.

in theory and according to what some docs say, yes, for me, i can still play basketball.

Full recovery if PT is taken seriously.
Also, maybe better to stretch pre-op
Stop calf-workouts s=as they will cause intense pains when lengthening.

If you do external tibia, no knee pain issue.

Not sure probably about 80000 USd
on the forum, there is a doctors section. search paley and guichet.

Internal femurs for 5 CM would be very reasonable, safe, and relatively comfortable if going with a top dr. with around a month after lengthening of down time to recover. Even after 8 CM people fully recover for the most part. The day I got confirmation I could weight bear I was leg pressing 150 or so per leg for many reps.

Whether you do 5 and 5 or 5 and 6 really doesn't make much of a difference proportion-wise.  If you'd like to keep as much athletic ability as possible, then don't do the surgery.

The general consensus on here is that if you're doing both segments you should do full-external tibiae and full-internal femurs.  These are the least invasive forms of the respective surgeries.

You'll be able to play sports and run after LL, just probably not as well as before.  Your muscles probably won't adjust to the new bone length 100% as if your legs were naturally that long.  I say probably a because I guess full recovery could happen.  I'm skeptical of people who claim they've made full recoveries though.

A research study someone on here dug up said that 50% of people with internal nails in their tibiae have knee pain, and 50% of those people have it permanently.  So if you slice open the patellar tendon, jam an internal nail in there, slice it open again, and pull the nail back out, you have a 25% of having some permanent issues.

That's not true.  If a nail can bear your weight, it will bear your weight as soon as it's locked in place.  A fellow patient in Beijing was walking around the day of his 2nd operation.
