0.6 mm a day?
« on: December 11, 2014, 01:09:21 AM »

Dr Fahri recommends me to lengthen 0.6 mm a day. I was wondering why so slow?

I am three days post-op and can move about very well and even stand without support.

No x-rays are done until fifth day post-op.

I'm quite athletic and 25 year old.

Apparently he says even if my bone growth is good, I should lengthen at 0.6 mm a day.

Why do you think he recommends that? Would that be for more stable result? He says there is less soft tissue complications if lengthen slowly.

BUt I hear other dr bagirov patients lengthen their tibia at 0.75 mm or even 1 mm a day (crimsontide).

Pls advise me.

Is it true there is less pain if I lengthen at 0.6 mm a day? not being whiny but if there's less pain and less complication, but longer process slightly, I would do 0.6

Lengthening slow is fine, assuming you don't preconsolidate or have time constraints. The week that I accidentally lengthened less then 1mm a day was noticeably more comfortable.

I'd stick with your doctor's advice. 0.6 mm per day is pretty standard for the tibias, if that is what you are doing. Don't make ll harder on yourself than it has to be with extra lengthening per day.

yup, based on my calculation, 0.6 mm a day compared to 0.75 mm a day would bring me to my target only 1 or 2 weeks earlier, around there.

No point suffering more. Might as well make the process more enjoyable :D

0.6 is way to slow. Need to do 1 mm per day and lots of weightbearing.

Isn't it healthier the slower you lenghten? The biggest reason doctors aren't legntening 0.5mm a day is premature consolidation.

That's only if you are doing femurs. Tibias can't usually lengthen that fast safely.

Fahri says 0.6 mm wont cause premature consolidation problems.

He seems so confident and says no need x-ray but I Insisted on examinations every 2 weeks. I need to check callus formation.

Also, I will try to ask him if I can try 0.75 for the first few days and see how it goes!

maybe he recommend me a lower rate 0.6 mm because I have bulky calf muscles??
