Why do you need to have the nail inside so long for LON?
« on: November 26, 2014, 12:56:12 AM »

People say with external fixation you wear the frames for a long time, maybe seven and half months for 5 cm. But for LON they say you need to keep inside the nail for something like two years. Why does it take so much longer before you can remove the nail? Like why can't you remove the nail after seven and half months for 5 cm with LON just like you can with exfix?

You might not need them in that long.  It took me less than a year to consolidate and be ready to get my internal nails taken out.

As for why it takes any longer at all, I think it's because the nails reduce blood flow to the area and therefore slow down consolidation.
