When can people go back to activities
« on: August 13, 2018, 03:58:53 PM »

Like the question says when can I go back to surfing running etc after 5 cm tibia lengthening and 5 cm femurs the only reason I gave those specific measurements is because that’s what I want to do and am curious to know when I can return to daily activity

Dr. Paley usually says a minimum of 6 months, which I think is pretty accurate.

Surfing is not daily activity.
Walking is.
And with stryde, Paley says you can do that (without support) at less than a month. So thats the answer.
For sports it would be 3-4 months after finishing lengthening.
I am talking about stryde. For other nails or fixators that time will be much longer.

Hey, it's been long since I've been off this forum. I think it is great that there is now a PRECISE weight bearing option now. I think you should definitely go for this nail as walking can change your quality of life during lengthening a lot.

Who cares about doing sports while lengthening, be patient. On the other hand, being functional during lengthening is the absolute best.

So if the nail is fully weight bearing, why is it not possible to just walk normal after the surgery? Are there any other factors preventing walking normal?

Well you're going to have painful incision sites with stitches in them in several areas. Most likely alot of bruising as well if you're doing femurs. It will take more than a few days to start walking regardless of how many KG the rods can hold.
