Bone bending chances without nails on tibia
« on: August 04, 2024, 07:22:04 PM »

If someone lengthens his tibia for more than 4 cm, let's say for about 5 or 6 cm without LON / LATN and with sturdy frames like TSF or full-ring Ilizarov, is the chance of getting bent bones during the consolidation phase significant when not using internal fracture nails?

I'm more concerned about the frame removal as there's a chance that bones might bend due to not being solid enough. That's basically impossible when there are solid fracture nails inside the bones like they use during LATN surgery.

For 4 cm, it doesn't take too long to consolidate fully and the gap is not that big as in 5 or 6 cm, so it makes sense that the risk of getting bent legs during the consolidation or after the frame removal is minimized to a certain degree. But, more than that amount is concerning when being done without the nails and I want to get a certain answer regarding this issue from someone who is knowledgeable in this matter.
