Seriously, pain management on LL??
« on: August 27, 2023, 09:54:12 PM »

Hello all, I've pretty sold on getting this procedure scheduled within the next 6 months. I'm 24 years old and I've been physically preparing myself by running and stretching daily.

That being said, my biggest concern is the infamous post-surgery pain. Some people have said that they experience a "9/10" on the pain scale for 1-2 days after the operation.

Is there any known intervention to prevent this? By no means am I worried about a little pain, but a 9/10 in pain is extremely tortuous, let alone for an entire few days.

Perhaps there are specific pain meds that work best in this case? Potential long-lasting numbing agents? What are some of your guys' thoughts.

Pain will vary for everyone but for the most part everyone will feel some kind of discomfort. Most people feel surgical pain first 3 weeks then next 3 weeks they feel good then after that they feel tight muscles. My experience was different i felt surgical pain for a month and didnt get tight til i got to 5 cm and it felt worse at 7 cm where i felt really really tight. My pain didn't go away either though i just got used to the pain and it became manageable through the day. Night time was hard to sleep unless you use sleeping aids it gets a bit easier. This was a very uncomfortable process to go through. Anyone who cant live a routine life for 3-5 months will hate this procedure.

People talking about "on a scale from 0 to 10" are entirely missing the point of the pain associated with this surgery. Its not the occasional flare that is the worst. Its the inevitability, erraticness, and constancy of it. Honestly. Everytime somebody tells you something like "uh, uh, the pain, 8/10", or  "9/10, but only here and there", I would, to some extent, disregard those comments.

Im 5 weeks post OP, right now. My pain varies. Its difficult to pinpoint where does it come from, and whats the root cause. It can persist for up to 10 hours, regardless of how much meds I take. Im not saying they dont work, Im saying that when the pain hits just right, I get to experience a never-ending agony. There is not much to say how to predict it. And the worst of it, its been there for the past 5 weeks, I dont get to have breaks. And I suppose its not "8/10". As of today, the entire situation is very much manageable. But I would lie, if I would say that it doesnt affect me psychologically. This kind of pain drains you out of your mental stamina. Getting meds from a nearby pharmacy is a journey. Getting some studies done requires double the effort. If the pain is there it will constantly remind about itself when you study. Im sort of stuck in a limbo, its not great, not terrible. Not sure if I should push it harder, to be done with it asap, or I should spread the clicking session in time.

I agree with you 100%. This was also my experience. Going to even pick up medicine was a journey. You'll learn most places don't even accommodate wheelchairs if you even have the strength to try to go do something. The most profound thing you said though was how people really try to get a pain level 0-10 but I experienced pains from 2-6 throughout and there were multiple days where it felt like 6 for 12 hours of the day and there isn't much you could do to relieve the pain. Closest way i can help you relate would be its like having a headache all day. Yes its worth going through for 3-5 months to be taller but everything combined of feeling disabled, isolation, pain can make you second guess yourself. Everyone is different and you figure out who you are when you go through this. Not before.

Dont worry about the pain, nothing is more important for a guy then getting up to a human height. If pain worries you that much then dont even do it. Most people here who have done it or are thinking of doing it have already grown the balls necessary to get through it. The Pain should never be unbearable anyways, aside from maybe the first few days, and even if it was a constant 10/10 pain it would still be worth it. Go into the surgery with lots of anger and dedication and get it done. Dont overthink it
