Young guy gets 18cm lengthening
« on: February 14, 2023, 01:06:38 PM »

Safe limits will never be a consistent thing in the LL community  but disregarding proportions and loss of athleticism at what point do doctors have a responsibility to tell a kid who was 5'2 not to lengthen 18cm!

It'll be very interesting to see his recovery. He's young and seems very flexible as well.

At this point, if people are too lazy to do some simple research and blatanly lengthen across reasonable rates, its their fault.

I didnt watch the Video but honestly I thought the same like you before I did. my surgery and worried a lot about the „safe“ limits. But honestly I believe that this are only recommandations and no Limits. Betz had enough example which have lengthended succesfully more than those „limits“. I agree it is not managable for everyone as everyone is differently disciplined and has other starting conditions. However, if you have very short legs like this guy than you can try to lengthen those cm.

I did 11 cm as well and I am totally fine.

You might be fine now, but might also develop artritis in the future because of your joints taking to heavy of a load over to many years. Dr. Franz in South Africa talks about how if you lengthen to much in the femur (overlengthen) against the wrong axis, you might develop Arthisis 10+ years down the line. There is a reason why all surgeons except bad ones in Turkey only recommend to lengthen the femurs MAX 7-8 cm to avoid this and other complications...

10 cm is pretty extensive, way too much....especially if his starting height was 5'2"...and then going for 8 cm in tibia?  His arm length proportion to his lower extremities will look interesting to say the very least.  You don't want to end up with the T-Rex appearance.
