Question for people on this forum who happen to be rich
« on: November 06, 2022, 07:33:16 PM »

I'm going with more budget options because of my situation in life but I am somewhat curious about the below:

People who happen to be rich, (ex: can afford any of the surgery options)

Do you prefer Paley's 280k USD for 16 cm option (4+4 then rebreak 4+4)?

Or do you prefer the weight bearing clicking options? Ex: Betz/Guichet?

Guichet seems to have become less popular on this forum after his legal battle with the forum user Unicorn but I assume he is similar to Betz, not sure the differences

Betz seems to be permissive (not sure if its good or bad) in allowing people to do fewer x-rays, go to work earlier (he doesn't do IT band release partially for this reason), letting them leave earlier, etc ---which makes me wonder if that is a reason going with Betz was very attractive to someone with Apotheosis's job and money (think he was a successful businessman or something? the leader of the previous LL forum) . Not sure if Guichet does things differently, unrelated to that-- Guichet seems to be very hardcore about having people train hard and early before the surgery. But I somehow imagine that rich people might prefer the weight bearing clicking nails because it is less disruptive to their lives

i would actually say the opposite
the people who dont have alot of money obsess about being able to return to work faster because they rely on that income.

Im well off so ill answer this I guess?

For me, if I was doing something massive like 16cm on both segments, safety becomes #1 (not that it already isnt #1 but it becomes even more so).  Everyone will find out about the surgery and its going to suck no matter what.  So id go with Paley.  Hes the best and is the least likely to leave you crippled.  However I would also say that he has like 22 surgeons working under him now.  So theres a good chance he wont be during your surgery?  So you need to understand who is actually working on you and if he will personally see your outcome.  If its Paley himself, then this would be my choice.

For what Im doing, 5CM on femur....its a small amount, the safest segment (femur), and its a weight bearing nail which means I can not hate my life through the process and possibly hide it from everyone.  For that reason I'm going with Betz.  Betz is also a good surgeon so its not like I'm taking a massive risk.

Hope that helps.

Yeah actually come to think of it, I wonder if someone is only doing 5 cm on femur, I wonder if hypothetically whether they don't need IT band release as much for just 5cm (Betz doesn't do IT band release most of the time). I believe Giotikas does IT band release, which I wonder if this is the cause of IT bands never being a problem for me and some those stretches actually just accidentally stretching my hamstrings more than my IT band

What were your thoughts on Betz (Betzbone 2.0 femurs) vs Guichet (gnail femurs) vs Giotikas (also uses gnail femurs)?

I'm almost at 5cm femurs now with gnail femurs in Athens, I am sort of finding my rhythm. Experimenting with just icing the right leg down after clicking and resting for a bit, seems to be decreasing my right hip pain that often happens for me after clicking. Gonna try to take painkillers 1-1.5 hours right before physio to see if that helps with stretching pain. Not sure the best times to cycle, but I tend to do pedal cycling right after waking up and right before clicking to warm up the muscles. I sometimes randomly take a painkiller in the morning if my legs feel very sore that morning, what do you like doing?

I've had a good experience in Athens, just mainly the city itself is a bit run down and very unfriendly for disabled people

Betz does the IT band release standard now even for 5CM.  I was told I would get a release with my surgery during my consultation.

I cant speak to much since my surgery is in Jan and I havent done it yet.  But one thing I heard is its easier to click with Betz.

Ah my b, I think I watched the old betz interview with cyborg4life which was a while ago

Betzbone 2.0 is easier to click than gnail? I wonder if that has anything to do with the length per click

For gnail femurs, its 15 clicks per 1 mm, not sure what it is for Betzbone 2.0?

Hey sorry I apologize to Dr. Betz/Dr. Becker and prospective patients of them out there, I have some outdated/wrong info based on an old 2021 interview with Betz. If the mod is out there, it might be better to delete this thread to avoid accidentally spreading outdated info

It seems that possibly (?) after the 2021 cyborg4life interview with Betz, at some point Becker and Betz started doing IT band release more frequently

I'm sure they are top doctors, I don't mean to be saying anything bad about them
