getting HIV from blood transfusion why NO ONE worry
« on: November 15, 2022, 04:21:06 AM »

in country like USA , UK getting infection from blood transfusion is just 1 in 3 million

but in country like India , South Africa getting infection from blood transfusion is much higher. In India every year around 1 THOUSAND gets HIV from blood transfusions.

This is like 1 / 1000 to  1 / 10000 risk of catching HIV from blood transfusion after doing LL.

in India they are not using advanced "Nat technique" to detect hiv in blood bank. So there is time window in which donated blood appear  HIV free but its actually HIV+ !

if ur getting LL in India please at least find a healthy relative who can donate you blood if you need transfusion, don't rely on blood bank! Even good doc cant control HIV spread through blood transfusion

It's an article form 2018. Things have improved since then. You'll not get HIV if you are in a good hospital. Also, forget about LL if you end up in an accident in India(assuming you are an Indian) then they'll do blood transfusion without your permission. How you'll save yourself then?

"Article form 2018...", yes but see more recent news (root problem is they dont do NAT testing of donated blood). You are really thinking things would have change in 5 years?

"You'll not get HIV if you are in a good hospital...", blood is received from external blood bank, not from hospital.

"if you end up in an accident in India..." very good point I agree. if its emergency they will do transfusion without contacting your family. It is risky but you are dying anyway. So YES based on above research, a patient who is in accident and rushed to hospital and gets blood transfusion can catch HIV (1 in 1000 to 1 in 10000 chance in India, but almost 0 chance in developed country).

I am Indian and I frequently get whats app group messages of someone or other asking for blood for some relative of friend. The logic is, they are afraid of blood bank and want blood from "trusted" source. Someimes even doctor advice patient's family to find a donor instead of taking directly from bank.

If you are so worried take your friend or family member with you who has same blood type as yours. Luckly, I didn't need blood transfusion.

yeah exactly my suggestions too

this sucks bcoz you will have to tell a friend/cousin/sibling etc (cant take parents for this because they ask for younger person blood)

Its quite silly that "self donation" is not a practice in India. They will let you respond only after emergency has happened and not before.

You can easily self-donate in India. Here's how:
- Go to any blood bank in mumbai and ask them to take and store your blood for a week or 2.
- They'll say no.
- Throw money at their face.
- They'll say yes sir.
- Job done.

Just directly talk to your surgeon they'll arrange this for you.

I'll do this for my tibia surgery. Everything is possible. Blood bank guys will even give you blow job if you want. You can't get this done on phone, Go visit the place personally give the male nurse some cash and then talk to him then he'll find a way for you for certain amount of money. They even sell illegal kidneys in India and you're telling me that this is not possible total bs.

is this your plan?

2 week before surgery find a nurse of blood bank and ask him to take your blood and store it somewhere separete from other people blood and keep it for at least 2-3 week
on surgery day you will ask doctor to use blood only from that bank and talk to that nurse. doc will say "OK"
if transfusion is necessary doc will arrange for your blood from that bank and specificaly by contacting that nurse

is this your plan?

If such arrangement already exists between hospital and bank then OK otherwise lol it wont work. Better to just accept that 1 in 1000 to 1 in 10000 risk of HIV and hepatitis I guess. You already done this once and took the risks.

Man I wont say India as a whole is bad if you go to good surgeon n hospital.

Main problem is blood which is "common resource" of the country. you cant get "private" "high priority" blood from blood bank for extra cost or anything like that.

There are two problems

1. NAT (nucleic type) testing is not done in all places. Some good blood banks do it but not all. other banks use inferior test method which can has chance of giving HIV or hepatitis (almost 1000 case per year due to blood transfusion!)

2. blood donation is in shortage. Imagine that there is emergency type situation and you are looking for blood. You will search in nearby blood bank. They will not always have availability. You will have to make compromise and get more dangerous blood which is not NAT test proof! You can either do that or desparately find some friend who will donate for you.
