Will having an Illio-tibial release remove all duck ass?
« on: August 23, 2022, 09:14:56 PM »

One of the major obstacles when having LL is the duck ass due to ITB tightness.

Will having ITB release significantly reduce this? I already have an anterior pelvic tilt / duck ass and i want at minimum ITB release before i get this procedure.

I believe it helps a lot.

There are other posts that had DA then got ITB release and the improvement was almost instant. But I am not talking from personal experience .., yet

ITB release affects the outside tendons of the femurs. It's primary purpose is to help prevent or alleviate the wide-legged stance or cowboy stance.

Duck ass is caused by tight hip flexors. The best way to stretch tight hip flexors is to have your PT stretch your hip flexors, often with the Thomas stretch.

as HJ said, ITB release hs nothing to do with lumbar  hyperlordosis (duck butt)

It prevents the wide leg gait and knee flexion contracture

ITB release is done before surgery, after lengthening phase or both?

I have had ITB release during the initial CLL operation on my right Femur, and three weeks after Femur CLL operation on my left Femur, (spent 4 days in hospital as fluid kept leaking from the ITB release site).  I  found Knee flexion and daily lengthening rate were better with my right femur and improved greatly after the ITB release on my left Femur. My surgeon advised ITB release has no bearing on Duck ass. and for me i found in both cases my slight but annoying duck ass was not affected by ITB release as far as i could tell.

ITB release is usually done in the osteotomy surgery. You can do the ITB release in a separate surgery, but you'll pay many thousand $'s more in a separate surgery.

As my doctor said, I had ITB released during osteotomy. I’m 7cm ongoing distraction and i walk wide-legged stance or cowboy stance. I wonder if I should ask for ITB release again when I will have surgery for removal external fixator. THANK YOU
