Hello all,

I have been a long time lurker around these forums but never had the courage to actually post or even consider CLL. A little about myself, I am currently 21 years old and am standing at a height of 173cm (I'm Australian so we use cm - but for others I think it's about ~5'8"?). Anyways, I was quite the late bloomer during highschool and have suffered from heightism for as long as I could remember.

Everyday, I would research on ways to increase my height. I have resorted to exercise, shoe lifts, proper eating, stretches, yoga, hairstyles with volume, and more. However, I still feel as though my height is inadequate and have finally decided to consider CLL.

My plan of action is to get LL (tibia) so I can reach at least 180cm.

From my research and the opinion of others, I have heard that you continue to grow even up until the age of 25. Now, I've stayed at the same height for almost a year and a half so I highly doubt that I can grow anymore (but what do you guys think?).

I'm not so sure about my father because he ran away when I was still young, but my mother is vietnamese and measures around 150cm (in case you're wondering about my genetics).

Now, my question for you lovely people is:

A. Can I safely get around 7cm through lengthening my tibia?
B. How long will this certain procedure take (including recovery time)?
C. Is there anything I can do beforehand to help increase the success rate of surgery? (e.g. certain exercises, building muscle, certain foods)

I will post pictures of myself soon including mock pics of the LL on my tibia.

Thank you in advance for all your help and I hope we can all help each other out.
I think it takes a lot of courage to go down this path so please be supportive of me and others.

Welcome to the forum.  I hope you find the information you're looking for here, and that you'll keep us updated with a patient journal if you do decide to get LL.  I agree with Thegosis first of all; your best option is not to do LL but to find a way to live with your current height.  Can't do it?  Welcome to my world then.

Check with a doctor to see if you're finished growing.  They can tell based on your growth plates.  Although some people might keep growing until 25, I was 5'7 when I was 18 and stayed that way until LL.  So maybe there's no reason for you to wait.

A. Maybe, maybe not.  It depends on your body.  You don't want to lengthen more than 20% of the original bone length.  My tibiae went from 15 to 18 inches (exactly 20%) safely.  You will be able to do it though, even if you go over that 20% limit.  It's just that you risk more long-term complications due to drastic changes in your anatomy.

B. I stayed in Beijing for 5 months for my LON, although you can be discharged from the hospital and lengthen at home after 1-2 weeks.  The Beijing Institute's fees included accommodations and round-the-clock care, so I decided to stay there the whole time.  After the 5 months, I went home, and it took me another 4 or 5 months before I was walking normally.

C. Build up your quadriceps.  I had trouble lifting my legs almost the whole time I was in Beijing due to weak quads.

Hi MDOW,

Thank you for your advice. I will go to the doctors to check if my growth plates are still open. If they aren't, I will proceed with LL.

A. After being aware of the 20% limit, I think it would be safe if I stuck within that range (I don't want any complications T_T)

B. I have considered visiting Dr. Xia in Beijing for the CLL as I have read a lot of positive reviews and because his price is a lot cheaper than other doctors. However, I do not speak chinese at all. Was language a major barrier when you were there?

C. Thanks for that! I'll work on my quads and up it on my front squats.

Thanks for taking your time to help! I wish you the best of luck on your CLL MDOW!

The language barrier wasn't too bad.  I learned a few Chinese words for the things I needed pretty quickly.  Close door, turn on light, water, brush teeth, etc.  You don't really need to know more than that to communicate with the caretakers.  If you're having trouble you can always call Wang Bei, the English translator.  She's usually available to help foreign patients.

Doctors Li, Han, and Zhou spoke pretty good English, and when Drs. Peng and Xia talk to foreign patients they always have Wang Bei with them to translate.
