Wearing heels after tibia lenghtening.
« on: October 05, 2021, 06:00:20 PM »

Hello! I am a 22 year old female who wants to do a quad. surgery(both femurs and tibias). I am wondering how long would it take me to wear heels again after recovery?

Depends on how much you want to lengthen and which method, for a 5 cm tibia lengthening you should be full weight bearing  in 8 months more or less if you use external methods. After that you can continue with femoral internal lengthening. I recommend you to use externla method for tibia becuase is easier and doesnt have too much complications, although you will have some scars that can be corrected with another surgery.

Thank you taking the time to reply to me. :)
Can you explain to me how externals will have less complications for tibias?

Becuase if you have some some deformity right know that can be corrected at the same time you lengthen your tibias, also if you use an ilizarov device you will only need one major surgery and with internal tibias the nailing can damage the cartilage of the knees and cause knee pain(not everybody has that complication but can happen and has happened to some veterans here who had done LON(lengthening over a nail). Infections with pure internals are not common but if it happens it is a deep bone infection, with pure external method you can have infections but superficial, nothing really serious. Dont even think in external methods for femurs very painful and can cause severe knee stiffness, for femur only internal methos like stryde or precice.

Here's what Dr. Robbins says about wearing heels after lengthening from Cyborg 4 Life's YouTube Channel. (Dr Robbins is the guy talking over the phone not the person in video)
