How Long Can You Stand And Work For After Surgery?
« on: June 01, 2021, 07:58:27 PM »

I have planned out everything and have read many diaries on here. But one thing I can never understand is how long people can stand and work for?

After surgery are you able to work the same as you did before surgery?
And I believe even without doing the surgery you legs start to hurt every now and then.

So my question is can you work for 8-10 hours after surgery?
Like if you’ve healed well.
Because any normal persons legs will start hurting after standing for too long.

I personally am a chef and you stand for long hours in the kitchen, although it’s not any heavy lifting or anything.

Please give any feedback thank you.

Also which bit of the leg is better to do the surgery on, Tibia Or Femurs?

I am personally thinking of doing femurs first using Stride or any decent nail.
And then if that goes well thinking of doing external Tibia.

Should I got for tibia first or femurs?

There are no guarantees. If your livelihood depends on standing for 10 hours a day then you think: Can I switch careers if this doesn't work out?

Good question.  I was ust the same as before for several years after LL, but recently started having foot and leg fatigue/pain if I stand for several hours.  Is it due to the LL?  I don't know.

No offense but you did 7cm on tibia which is way more than recommended safe limit. Had you don’t 5cm or even 6cm I believe you would feel a lot better

6cm compared to 7 is a very small difference to have major differences in rehabilitation.
5cm are safer but for most of us that amount was not enough so it worth the small risks to gain 1-2cm more and have a more respectable height.
Personally I can stand for 2+hours after LL. Maybe I can more but there is no need as my work is on the desk so there is no reason to stand for long times.

So you had not too much pain after surgery but now you do?
I think it could be prob the old age maybe.
But thanks I think I should possibly be fine as you said you didn’t feel much pain before

Nah if it comes to be not being able to walk, I’ll just cook on a wheel chair I’ll still have my hands

I’m glad to hear that standing for 2 hours isn’t too bad.
I had asked Dr Mahboubian On Instagram And he replied that it’s possible to stand for 8-10 hours  possibly.
But hearing from a patient is more satisfying I guess.

When it comes to tibias not true. 6 vs 7 is a big difference, 5 vs 7 is huge. After a certain point each cm is exponentially detrimental. I’m very sure if he had done 6 or under he would feel that way

Not trying to be rude or anything but how long can you stand for, I know you have just done your surgery few months ago and yeah I hope your doing well.

Also if you don’t mind telling me what do you do for a living like office job?

To be honest, 6 months post-op (6 CM femurs), I could stand for hours and even went on long walks and hikes around the 8/9 month mark. I did have a little limp when I would get out of a car or sitting for a long time. All in all, standing and relearning to walk was pretty quick, it was the higher-level athletic stuff that took way longer.

Why is 7 cm way worse than 5?  And don't use forum lore to back up your assertion.

I can stand for hours now, I'd say I can stand as much as I used to pre-op, but there'll just be more of a conscious effort to achieve that. but I can confidently say I can stand for 8-10 hours a day if I got paid enough to do that at 1yr 10 months

I believe complication rates go up way more past 5 cm than under 5 cm, and the rate keeps increasing the further up you go from 5 cm. Not sure if it's exponential though.

Honestly I’m happy for you man, this was encouraging thanks a lot. Also the fact that you did 8cm on femurs and you are able to do that, it’s amazing. Do you think if you had done surgery in tibia plus the femurs youd still be able to stand for long hours ?

That's my point.  People "believe" this with no evidence, and repeat it as fact.

Then why do you consider shortening your legs now?

I can't say for sure but I'm sure It'd be harder with another surgery on top

I don't think there's actually a magic number.  Two people I know who lengthened less (both 6 cm) are worse off than me now.  Another guy from Beijing who lengthened more than me went through it with almost no problems, although I don't know how he's doing long-term since I didn't keep in touch with him.
